Pest Control…
Pest control is a Multiplayer minigame based on ‘Pest Island’ Also the home of the newest minigame, Conquest.
To play Either of these games, one has to travel to Port Sarim, talk to the ‘Scribe’ and travel to Pest Island. The Island contains:
• Bank
• General Store that sells ‘Field Rations’
• Anvil. One of the Squires on the island can repair Barrows armour.
• Void Knight Archery Shop.
• Void Knight Magic Shop – Sells most kinds of Runes, excluding Blood Runes.

Landers

There are three landers on the island, each marked by a separate flag.
The flag for Novice is Black.
The flag for intermediate is Half Black, half white.
The flag for expert is White.
Pest control is a safe activity. If you die, you will keep all of your items.

Monster Section


Brawlers

Range is particularly strong against Brawlers, and they are weak to stab attacks. On the good side of them, they will never attack a Void Knight, but they will attack players standing near and around it. A Brawler rarely gets very close to the Void Knight, and even if it does, poses no threat. Brawlers block other monsters so they can’t walk through them, which makes them popular for ‘luring’ more important creatures like Spinners.

Defilers

RuneScape Wiki Quote: ‘Defilers are fast, agile creatures in the Pest Control activity. They have the appearance of the lower half of a snake, a humanoid top half and a face resembling that of a cat. They can throw flying spikes over long distances, can inflict a large amount of Range type damage with the missiles, and will actively attack the Void Knight.’

I find Defilers very annoying, and they are definitely the monster that kills me the most. They’re fairly agile, which means it’s frustrating going after them in melee. However, they are fairly weak to mage attacks, particularly Ice. Bring along a few ‘Ice Barrage’ Runes, just in case you need them.

Ravagers

RuneScape Wiki quote: ‘Ravagers are short, humanoid creatures with large claws in the Pest Control activity. Their appearance is closely related to that of a mole with over sized claws and red eyes.’
I do struggle to see the bit about red eyes, but other than that, it’s a fairly good description. These guys tear down the doors and Vividly attack the Void Knight as much as they can. The doors they break can be a pain, because it opens a new gate for Torchers. They have to be killed as quickly as possible, I find these the highest Priority Pest to kill, because if they survive too long, the Void Knight is almost guaranteed dead. They aren’t aggressive, except for when they attack a door or gate.

Shifters

Shifters are VERY annoying to deal with, as they are capable of teleportation, and more often then not like to teleport directly next to the Void Knight. For what they look like, another RuneScape Wiki Quote… (Keep it coming RuneScape Wiki )

‘Shifters are creatures that excel in melee combat and can teleport across the island and even past walls. They have the bottom half of a spider with the scythes of a praying mantis (similar to the Abyssal Deamon).’

Spinners

Spinners look something like a jelly Fish with tentacles floating above the ground… They aren’t that strong in combat, but have high constitution and defence, which makes them harder to kill than most monsters. If the portal is destroyed before the spinner heals it, the spinner will start going around in circles, then explode and deal damage to those around it. Anyway, enough about spinners… Splatter time!

Splatters

Splatters look a bit like a beach ball full of juice with a massive eye in the middle. Creative? Anyway, when they get killed, they will explode and deal a fair amount of damage to players nearby. Sometimes, a Splatter will randomly explode, dealing the same amount of damage to everything around it. (INCLUDING GATES) They will never attack a Void Knight, but can still pose a threat to it by exploding.

Torchers

Torchers attack with a Mage attack, and will always go for the void knight. The higher level Torchers are a large danger for the Knight, and should be killed as soon as it’s possible to. I believe they are weak to Melee, particularly the Dragon B’axe special attack.

Skills

To play in a game of Pest Control, you will need a combat level of at least 40, to use the novice lander. To use the intermediate lander, you must have a combat level of 70 or up, and to use the veteran lander, you need to be over level 100.
Participation (Commendations)
To receive Commendations (Also known as Post Control points) you will need to inflict over 500 Hitpoints damage on the various monsters scattered about the island. Repairing a barricade or gate on the island acts as 50 points of damage on a monster, allowing players who may not be able to get the required points in the time given Or skillers and pures who may not want to use Combat to receive Commendations. If someone were to do no damage to any of the monsters, they would need to repair 10 gates or barricades to get a Commendation.

Players and Numbers
A game of Pest Control lasts for 20 Minutes if the portals aren’t destroyed, and the Void Knight is not killed, which is unlikely to happen under almost any circumstance. The maximum amount os players allowed into a pest control game is 25, and as soon as that amount is reached, the game automatically will start itself. If 25 people do not join the game, the players will have to wait 5 Minutes for it to begin.

What can I bring?

You cannot bring your pets, Familiars, or cannons onto the island. If you try to bring a pet onto the island, a message should pop up and say ‘You feel it is better to leave your pet outside of this game’. Something like that also happens with Familiars, but I’m not very sure.

End game
Basically, there are two ways to win a game of Pest Control:
1. Keep the Knight alive!
2. Destroy every portal on the island without the Knight being killed. Very commonly done, this is mainly what happens at the end of a pest control game.
I Believe that the games are scored like so:
Novice Lander – 2 Pts. Per successful game.
Intermediate Lander – 4 Pts. Per successful game.
Expert Lander – 6 Pts. Per successful game.

Please correct me if I have something wrong here, I haven’t played Pest Control for a long time!

Portals
There are four portals on the island, facing one in each direction.

West Portal
South-West Portal
East Portal
South-East Portal​

When all four portals are destroyed, the game will end by itself, and you will be awarded commendations unless you didn’t get enough Zeal.
