What is it?
You might be asking yourself what service I am providing. I would be using your gamertag to unlock games / gamerscore for you.

How does it work?
I will use your gamertag to unlock the requested games/gamerscore, I will then run it for ten minutes offline, then connect to live to ensure it's set in. I will delete it off of my Xbox, and then allow you to recover it. This ensures that transferring Xboxs/Live won't erase it. I recommend waiting 30 minutes after I've told you I have deleted it to recover your tag.

Is it just cosmetic?
No, it will not change at any point unless flagged, which typically will happen right away. I've not had this happen on either of my 3 gamertags or the free users I have done. I'm smart about how I unlock.
There is a recommended gamerscore to unlock at a time so if you want an overly large amount we will need to discuss risks, etc.
To answer the question, it does physically change your gamerscore.

Can I give you a throwaway XBL to prove you're legit?
You sure can! I'll be happy to do it on any account, so if you want some trust just make a new one.

Yep, you can change your Gamertag's email.

Log in, click your name on the top right where it says:
"xxnamehere
Gold Member (or Silver)"
Click your name and then go to Contact Preferences.

After that you can update your email.
If you'd like to be one of the two left in the freebies let me know and I'll put your name in - then add me on MSN and I'll get it done first thing in the morning.
