2001 Dodge Stratus

I just bought this car today.

The guy was asking $800 for it, but we lowered it to $650. The only problem is the head gasket, but we fixed that with a permanent sealer for only $30.

The only real problems are the interior, it was full of cigarette butts, a few burns in the carpet (none on the seats thankfully), tons of grease and everything everywhere, just one huge mess. It'll take a day or two to clean it. We also have a small engine problem, and need to re-attach one mirror, but that's it.

What do you think of this car for only $650? It's my first car.

It also has a bit of rust under one door, and the two doors have alignment problems (on one side), you need to open the front one to be able to open the back one (only on the right side), because the owner of the vehicle left the car in neutral one day, and that side hit a telephone pole and knocked it out of alignment.

 

I've owned a stratus before, and I can say they're pretty decent cars. Good choice for a first car.

Yeah. The cigarette burns will be covered with new mats that I'll be buying, by the way.

I will be going to a "you pull it" station to get some new parts. I'll buy two new doors, some new buttons (one of the good doors has the lock-all door button missing), and as you can tell in the very first picture, a small piece of the bottom tail light is broken. I'll be replacing that.

 

Honesty, considering your self proclaimed lack of car knowledge, you made an excellent decision and got a really good deal. With proper maintainence, that car will last you an easy 75k miles.

Good Choice Man. Might want to fork up the money and get it detailed, it's worth it just because you can never be sure what's in there you know? That's what I would do, at least.

 

Why couldn't I find anything like that on craigslist ?

Is it a salvage or clean title?

 

Wow only $650? That's a good deal.

 

That's a good deal, with the money you saved on the buy you can fix it up to a nice looking first ride.

Unfortunately $650 was all that I had. If he kept the price at $800, my dad was going to lend me some money. It's my birthday Monday though, so I'm sure my dad will help me buy some new car parts for this baby, and/or lend me money.

Yeah, I'll see. I really don't know much about cars, I just saw it on Craigslist, told my dad, and he said that it was a great deal even at $800, and we called the guy and then went straight over to see it, then bought it. My dad has a lot of car knowledge, and will be helping me fix it up. It's going to be a father/son project for the next little while.

 

Those types of projects are always fun. Hope it all works out for you.

 

Pretty nice ride for $650, hope it doesn't conk out in a few miles.

My mom had a stratus for a few years, it was a nice little car, it ran really quite.

 

Just spent the past hour cleaning it. Scrubbing off dirt in every single nook and cranny. I have one side done, and it looks so much better than before. It was covered in dirt. I used a toothbrush for the cracks, and a big brush for the other parts, it's really tiring. Hopefully it will be worth it.

 

Good deal, you can make a decent car from it when you will fix everything.

Small engine problem at the moment, so it's not. But my dad said it can be fixed with around $100.

 

That's great, funny thing is that your insurance in like 3-4 months will probably add up to the price of your car. (If you're under 18 that is)
