It's because this list of so-called "first 2k players" were simply taken from the RuneScape highscores when the skill "Carpenting" was released.
The skill had been added but there was no way as to how one would gain EXP in the skill yet.
So when you would log in, you would register at 0 carpenting exp.
This is just a list of the first 2,000 people to log into the game after "Carpenting" had been released.
