We need to talk about buyer bans.

I know a lot of people are Googling things like "are buyers still being banned for buying RSGP in 2023?".

I don't know, but we need a central hub. We need a thread where people talk about their experiences, so if you've been buying RSGP and you have been banned, haven't been banned, or have/haven't received the RWT warning, please post here sharing your experience. We can only figure out Jagex's M.O. by compiling a list of our collective experiences, and that's what my aim is for this post.

I'll share my experience first.

I was buying gold a couple of times a month, just $20 worth here and there. I did probably 10 total transactions ranging from 75M up to 300M.

I received the RWT warning in December of 2021. I stopped playing for about 6 months or so, and when I came back, I RWT'd one last time. I did not receive a ban or any wealth removal, but I may have just gotten lucky. I haven't RWT'd since then. Obviously I would like to buy GP, otherwise I wouldn't be so interested in all this, but I'm not going to risk it unless we can get a bunch of feedback from loads of different people and the collective experience seems to point to "it's safe again" (which it may or may not be, I really don't know yet).

So basically... Just share your experiences. That way, when people Google things like "is it safe to buy gold osrs 2023" they'll find this thread and they can judge for themselves whether or not it's worth it.

Also, if you have any tips for safe methods, share those as well. I will say, the last time I bought gold (after the RWT warning), I asked my guy to deposit into my POH's tip jar. I am not saying that is the reason I didn't get caught, I'm just letting you all know how I did it. We'll just call this the "buyer ban megathread" ig.

 

I got one warning Oct. 2021 ..Bought 400m OSRS gold since then. Bought 1 month later in 2021 and 2 times in 2022 and once in 2023. No other warnings or bans since then.

 

The chances of getting caught are still extremely low, maybe 1 in a 1000. But if you want to reduce risk and just have a peace of mind, I'd suggest buying items, as I never heard anyone getting banned for that

 

I've received two temp bans within the last two months after buying 1b then 300m twice. The first was a three day ban and the current one is 7 days. They only took the raw GP the first time and I have no idea what they will take this time.

 

It happened to me about 2 months ago. Had an inactive account I wasnt even using, I bought gold months earlier, 2k+ total level. Got a random ban months later and got 260m removed.

 

Been buying gold FOREVER to the tune of 30-50K irl worth with lots of transactions big and small. Got my main account banned a few years ago for selling gold. NEVER EVER been banned for buying gold until last month. Bought like 250M osrs and got a 3 day temp ban. They only took the gold no items.

 

I rarely hear of buyer bans, maybe because the vocal community is all buyers who aren't expecting any rwt bans, compared to a seller who is aware of the risks.

 

Never got a warning and I did a lot of RWT a few months back, stopped as my small farm produced enough but never got a warning or message regarding the trades

I think it depends on your account, I'm just about maxed do a lot of rwting and never received a warning. It's also not abnormal for me to trade other players, establish your account a bit first.

 

I think you best bet is having a high level account with lots of playtime, only buying from small time sellers who also have high levelled accounts, and not buying large amounts like 500m+

 

I’ve been buying gold $20-$50 at a time every month or so and haven’t been banned or anything yet. Been doing it awhile. First time was bc I got hacked bc I’m an idiot and they cleaned my bank. I like to think they ignored it due to me trying to rebuild.

 

Just received a 3 day minor temp ban for RWT buyer about 4 days after purchasing gp. Waiting to see what kind of wealth removal happens.

 

Same. It’s definitely not safe to buy gp anymore. Anyone who says otherwise is either delusional or trying to protect their gp selling business.

 

Got banned big time. Wouldnt recommend it anymore, like other people are saying.

 

Just been banned for 7b. Out of the blue. No warning. No temp ban. Straight perm (high lvl main)

 

Noticed a lot of buyer bans are delayed for 3-6 months. Always gold removed, never touch the items themselves. Im in a very active RiskFighters discord where people are being banned almost daily for RWT. Ive seen AT LEAST 13 cases of this happen since august.

 

I heard there has been a huge ban wave since the last update yesterday

 

Update ony my 3 day ban: They wiped the entire cash stack but left the items. Gf 60m but at least I kept my infernal cape I bought a year ago and items I bought with the gp.

Like others have said, RWT is pretty damn risky these days. Gonna chill for a while and lay low.
