Ink Heart 7/Jaegar's #1 Chinchompa Ranging Guide!

Ink Heart 7 + Jaegar's chinchompa ranging guide.
Written December 26th 2007 (On my Clan Site, At the time)

Edit: chinchompas were nerfed partway through march. the nerf made it so they can only hit 9 creatures\people at once, just like ancients. it does change the amounts of chins needed, and slows the xp down, however it is still the best in the game.

    Requirements:
55 range, 43 prayer, completed or started monkey madness. (will explain)
    recommended levels:
80+ range (55+ is what you need for the equipment, but you wont hit with under 70 range) (under 70 should go bandits)
higher prayer is an advantage, lower causes you to bank often, and will cost alot more in prayer potions.
cost for 70-99 range: about 75k red chinchompas. will also need quite alot of prayer and range potions. depending on pray levels, 70-99 range might cost you 40m total including chimp price raises. currently 350 ea and raising. in calculating amount of chinchompas, its about 150k xp per 1k chimps (edit 100-140k xp per 1k between 80-99) (price settled ~650 ea)
length of time 70-99 range: 50-60 hours or so. i got 84-99 in 5 days. (can throw exactly 1.5k chins an hour minus banking)
average exp per hour: at 85 i was getting 200k+, when i was closer to 99 i had up to 300k xp some hours. if you afk and pay little attention the exp lowers considerably though. (less now due to nerf)

    Part 1:
buying your equipment. im sure there are many variations of equipment you could use. buy what you like, if you are buying 99 range, im sure you could afford the best range equip there is. its not like range gear is expensive or anything.
you will also need alot of chinchompas. 85-99 range took me 58k RED chinchompas or thereabouts. they sell in weapon and miscellaneous forums on runescape. i paid 310 ea for mine, however prices have already shot up from 250 to around 400 right now. im sure they will still raise.

    Part 2
getting set up. the easiest place to start is alkarid. go north to the gnome glider, ask him to take you to the grand tree. go down 2 floors, go west, and bank. get out your equipment. this is what it should look like. (sorry pics little messy)
(edit: instead of the sharks, bring 2 brews, or 1 when you get better, and a couple super restores)
if you have a greegree this is an idea, i lost mine somehow, however you'd do better wasting 1 dose of pray pot instead of a whole invo spot for greegree, the only advantage is that it enables you to log out. m'speak ammy is not necessary.
also don't bring that many chinchompas, even with 99 prayer you wont use more then 5k in a load. that was all i had in my bank, brought all by accident. dying is very possible here, no need to take unnecessary risks.

    Part 3

getting to the location. go east and talk to daero, then waydar, and then lumbo to get to ape atoll. if you do not have a greegree, then put on melee protect and run straight west until you get to the cave. go down, and run along it until you come to skeleton monkies. my spot is in the second turn, the lower half of the "S" bend.

note for pures: if you are an under-30-defence-pure, and do not want to take the experience from daero at the end of quest, then your only option is to train to 99 range without completing the quest. if you complete it, then you have to talk to daero before you can go to ape atoll again, and before he lets you, you must accept the reward experience.

    Part 4
technique, and why this spot works. first thing you get there you see 5 lvl 142 "skeleton"s that look like monkies. you automatically think its not enough for a training spot, which is why they are overlooked. next go under the overhang, which you can see if you make your screen directly over your character, or can see white lines on the minimap. this protects you from the falling rocks. now watch out for the floor spikes, when you run over them the monkies lag you, like with the old rune defender emote, and so you get hit multiple times, which can get you koed.
now if you were a monkey, range pot, put on prayer, and equip your chinchompas. if you didn't bring a greegree, make sure you aren't running out of prayer, range pot, and start having fun. i used "short fuse\accurate" to the most effect, hitting 14s with 99+ range, and 15s with 107+. if you range prayer, 100+ range hits 16s. after killing the monkies you will find that they respawn from their own bones every minute or so, which along with the regular spawns can result in them multiplying until there are up to 20 of them. (i have not been able to count more then exactly 20 at one time.) make sure you move around some, as if there are 5 bones on top of each other on 1 square, only 1 monkey will spawn at a time.

if you still have trouble finding to get there for some reason, this picture might be of use (if its too small save it and relarge)

    Part 5
other unexplained and random stuff. the burning bones, if a monkey isn't attacked for a while they seem to turn into "burning bones", and something they just do this randomly. sometimes the "burning bones" develop into 2 monkies, sometimes they turn into an evil chicken, strange plant, or security guard. personally i kill them, the plants are good because then you only attack 1 thing for a while, and the other skeles don't pile, which = good spawns which is more exp.

there used to be a bug with the chinchompas, that if you had a good arrow\bolt in your quiver, they could hit alot higher. people were hitting over 25s with them. this bug no longer works, and i have never used it. i only heard about it.

the reason why chinchompas will raise is: first off, apparently red salamanders are the best hunting exp in game. so that cuts out at least 1\4 of hunters hunting red chinchompas. the rest might want money, or just like chinchompas better, or think they're faster. now, of our runescape population, i'd guess at least 95% are "combat noobs" and the rest are partly skillers and even including the skillers, i be alot more of them would rather train to 99 range, then to 99 hunter. on top of that, it takes under 50k chinchompas to get 99 hunter, and it takes around 1.5x that many to get 99 range.
this is why i think prices will raise.

    Part 6
I just ask that everyone be respectful of this spot, if too many people use it they might nerf chinchompas, so they only give half the experience, like they did with multi combat spells. in writing this guide i ask that everyone be respectful of others training with this technique, but i do not think it will be a problem. for those that can afford this there are over 150 training spots that can be used. i hope there are no problems fighting over worlds, or spot stealing.

Please enjoy and Post what you think :)
