Reasons that an RS name seller may refuse to verify account with in-game PM?

I am new to this name trading. I have read various threads about safety and took that I should verify the account with an in-game PM from the account name I want to buy.


Today I received an offer for a name I wanted and we moved the discussion to Discord. After settling on a price they refused to verify they owned the account with an in-game PM. They only sent me an in-game screenshot with my name in chat: It would be far too easy to photoshop a fake.

What confuses me is the following when asked to PM in-game:
"I cant do that, we're using a middleman
or do you have vouches
on sythe?"

I fully intended on using a middleman but dug my heels in for the in-game PM verification. Our communication has ended there permanently.

Am I missing something? Is there a reason for a name seller not to PM in-game? The name in question isn't extraordinarily rare either.

 

I would never send a pm before i got my payment from a buyer. On the other hand, i wouldn't buy a name from someone that isn't totally trusted.

 

i think if they could just pm u ingame, that would verify they are owning the username. that can be faked too, be careful.

 

Why's that? What sort of risk is there for the seller if they PM a potential buyer?

Fair play - I can see someone scamming despite a PM verify.

 

I'm not saying it definitely would happen, but if you could match up with proof that this in-game PM you have requested coincides with communications in regards to selling the name for anything other than RSGP (because I believe name-selling is a grey area/allowed as long as it's not for anything outside of the game? Could be wrong), and you send that to the tip-off email they could be punished. It may be a slight change but it's not a risk worth taking when you don't even know if the buyer is legit and has only joined the site less than a month ago.

 

always use a trusted Middleman, if it seems sketchy and if they are claiming they have your "dream name" you should always be weary on the exchange. always check if the name is bound/scammed. also check unique discord IDs if you are talking to the seller right seller on sythe. many scams have been happning and i cant stress enough to use a trusted middleman

 

i would highly advice using a middleman who is involved in the name marked better to pay an extra 10 percent then lose everything (alot of the big name swopping middlemans cover scams ect )

 

Yeah use an experienced/trusted middleman for this.. Get them to get confirmation, Seller cannot deny that surely... If they want the sale you need some kind of peace of mind/info that it's the real deal before handing over cash.
