    Providing Id to Gold sellers?

I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on this matter. I have not done much trading so the concept of providing my drivers license etc makes me be a bit skeptical due to identity fraud etc. How safe is this really? Any responses would help a lot!

    Providing Id to Gold sellers?

When I used to buy Gp back in the day, I would use gold selling websites. However if they did ask for an id/ phone number confirmation I would try to talk to the live chat support and try to avoid it. If that didn't work I would try another website. Me personally I don't trust the asian gold farming websites, not worth it to get your identity stolen for virtual gp.

You really shouldn't be handing out your ID online liberally. There are plenty of gold sellers, it'd be better if you found one that didn't require an ID.

Obviously handing it out liberally isn't the best idea. But there is a reason for it, 95% of gold sites ask for ID above a certain threshold. Its to ensure the Paypal account is legitimately owned and to help win a case if there is a charge back. After a certain period of time they're deleted.

Just asking for an ID sends most fraudsters packing. Its necessary because even one charge-back can nullify profits from 10+ other sales and put our Paypal account under additional scrutiny.

So to answer OP, yes generally its safe. But use proper discretion, long standing sites with lots of feedback are a pretty safe bet.

Its also worth mentioning if you don't like the risk there are other ways to go about it. You could obtain and use a payment method like bitcoin that cannot be charged back, that way no seller would care to ask for ID. Or you could go to a site like playerauctions.com which are known to be trustworthy with personal information.

Exactly what my nigga malaka just said.

Many high-end gold sites require scanned copies of ID for big trades. Which is a seemingly reasonable request because of the high value of trades that occur, $400, $750, $1000. With OSRS gold, because of the price per mil it's easy to top $1000 in a trade (only 500m). It's easy to see why gold sites would require ID. That being said, you really don't want your ID going into the wrong hands. I worked as a CSR for some lame ass gold site (Love you soheil<33) and we required ID checks. Of course as soon as I left I deleted any personal information logs pertaining to that job, but maybe gold buyers aren't as lucky the next time? Do you really want some random knowing your name, address, phone number, facebook, etc? I wouldn't.

I don't usually provide my photo ID to strangers.

But when I do I block my name, address, city, state, zipcode, license #, birthdate, sex, height, weight and hair color

If you're not up for sending an ID, I would highly suggest using bitcoin then. Less fees for everyone, and no ID is ever needed.

Tbh I don't like sending my ID either.
But after working for Lalapo, they get hundreds of IDs and I guess I can trust them by now. I'd say you're 99.9% safe unless their email gets compromised.

Sites like coinbase make it extremely easy to use Bitcoin. As a plus, many sellers here offer discounts for bitcoin transactions!

Site I work at, there's nearly a 5% difference in the price between paypal and Bitcoin, so in my opinion it's definitely worth it.

There are reasons that are warranted for asking for a gold buyers id. However if you are not willing to give your id to someone that you do not know, then I recommend you just find one of the other many gold sellers out there that do not require you to have your id with you.

My ID has been used in so many places online (non related to rs)
Just use trusted users with lots of feedback such as www.BoglaGold.com ;)
or alternatively as others have already suggested use bitcoin payments or any other method that doesnt require ID to be provided

Block out the drivers license ID and you'll be fine. Everything else on a license is pretty generic / on social media.
