Have any writing samples? Want to write for my site?

Some of you probably don't know me, because I don't frequent here as much as I used to, but I'm looking to expand the content on my site and I couldn't think of a better place to pick up new writers than Sythe. Having been on here for years, I know that there is a diverse group of leaders that come out of these forums with various skills in computing, and I'm looking for someone who's interested in writing editorials or doing periodical video content.

What is an Editorial?

Editorials are informational, biased or topical news articles that require a bit of digging to get your information. When you view a video game news website such as mine, you're finding only two kinds of articles - those based on press release information which a game developer feeds to you, or information where you've done a bit of research to find out more about it.

Editorial -

A Look Back at Jack Tretton's Career with Sony

I'm interested in people who are passionate about writing, and are willing to dig up the dirt on topics that they are interested in. [Must be about games]

Writers will be given the full authority to choose their own topics, while all topics and writings will be given a once-over by myself, as Lead Editor of PowerLeveled.com. Let me know here in this thread or via PM, Twitter or Facebook if you're interested. I'd like to see a writing sample, and I'm willing to work with you if you're not 100% comfortable with your writing, but I am looking for an entry level professional writing sample.

 

I hate to ask, but is there actually any compensation for this? The writer would be spending time doing research and putting together a well written article, and then it'd go up onto your site where you reap the benefits. I'd assume most people wouldn't be interested in doing it more than once or twice for the satisfaction alone.

 

Unfortunately, no. Writing for my website would be the same as writing for any website short of IGN, Polygon or Kotaku.com. The writing industry is one that requires being established in before anyone gets paid, and any writer who works for me could gladly place my name and our website on their resume/portfolio.

Any ad revenue that PowerLeveled generates right now is being recycled into the website itself for expansion and advertising. Applicants must be self-starters, but will be notified of all merits such as the number of people viewing their posts and their impact on our site.

Writing for PowerLeveled should be considered a stepping stone to the career that they want, not the career itself.

 

I know of an experienced Football (Soccer) Writer who's a member on here and is also a big gamer, unfortunately I doubt he'd contribute for free. Although I could point him to this thread, if you want?

 

If you'd like to do like a weekly or bi-weekly movie column I could do something like that, but I don't do much game writing. I tried to start a a thing like that on here doing a review on weird/surreal/little known films, but it never really took off and isn't something that people were interested in.

That being said I have had an idea for a couple of editorials for video games if you're interested in a pitch or two.
