Gmaul or Dds. Your opinion

This is a discussion about which weapon is the best ko wep/spec wep.


I know there is a lot of debate about this so I thought I would make a thread about it.

Note: This is talking about the weapon in their current form, not how they will be in the combat beta


Before we start out I wanted to list some things from each wep that are commonly agreed on.


Dds: -More specs so gives you more chances to get a "big hit" if the first one fails.
-Given since it has 4 spec it will overall deal more damage but less Ko potential and give the opponent time to eat/equip a phoenix necklace



Gmaul- Opponent has less time to eat and if timed right you can ko without giving them a chance to equip a phoenix necklace.
-seems more luck prone, if you get a good spec its most likely a kill but if not it makes it very hard to get a kill

well for me GMaul just for the fact there is no quest reqs and it has more str bonus

 

G Maul is very inaccurate, I'll go with DDS.

 

Granite maul is what I would use if I was using a slower attacking weapon, it's very inaccurate but hits very fast.
If I was using something else with speed i'd use a DDS, to get them with some hard hits.

 

If you are good with it, Gmaul for sure. Dds can be too slow or fail, Gmaul = 3 instant hits, it's pretty good if you time it correctly. I was never any good with it :C

 

Are there any strength levels that you guys think would be more suited for each weapon? IE. "I think (dds)(gmaul) is better for this stre level/combat level.


When I ask these questions im merely trying to get an discussion about them, I am not asking for help, this is just simply an intelligent debate

 

I prefer the gmaul, if you can time it right you can get three good hits and KO a person so quick, dds is still good though. I had a gmaul pure and I would use Ice blitz then the three hits with the gmaul and they would be dead. It was so fun for me.

 

I just like the dds, havn't from experience used the gmaul, but the dds works well for me

 

I enjoy seeing those big hits from gmaul against low defence pures. Mains can easily tank gmaul specs, making dds a better option for them.

 

As an old school player, always roll with the dds. I've been using the same one since 07' suprisingly. Will never sell it haha.

 

gmaul, typically your opponet never sees it coming because it hits so fast

 

Gmaul is so timing based though, I've always been terrible at it. I enjoy using a dds with a rune def while im ovl'd and I can hit 2 350+ easy

 

definitely the dds,sure it has a slower spec but its not THAT slow.
first off if you have two mains fighting,with even rune on, a gmaul would not do that well since its already inaccurate. a dds can still spec high as hell on a main in rune,especially if you have Turmoil and good str bonus and a defender on.

the gmaul can only really be used against pures since they dont really have defence and the maul has more chance of hitting. a dds will still work just as well on a pure because you can easily spec 30-30 on a pure nowadays, and 4 specs,not two like the maul. also with the dds if you hit combos on every spec, lets say first you hit 180-180 then hit 234-193 then hit 264-174 then hit 210-231 then you can ko them even if theyre spam clicking the food they have since theres a delay on how much they can eat and you will still be hitting high enough to kill them

 

gmaul blows unless you are lower lvl pking, it has no place in high level pk really... DDS all the way! its something you can and will use from 60-99 atk for anything and everything where as gmaul is more of a 50 atk pure wep with no real uses outside of low lvl pk .

 

A dds or more accurate on its own, especially when paired with a defender. And better against pures.

But if you're talking about any combo that involves either item, it's gmaul hands down. Claws to Gmaul to a heavy hitting weapon (SWH, GS etc.)

Anyway, here's a video of how to use a Gmaul. Skip to 1.40 to see how although claws failed to hit even 10 damage, the Gmaul saves the day. And at 2:05, against the void, if he didn't have/use Gmaul, he wouldn't have gotten the kill. He'd have missed so many of those kills without a gmaul.

 

gmaul for pures...dds for mains or pures with def.

 

From about 40 hours of Pure PKing, I can see DDS's are more of a threat to me than what Gmauls are.
However, when I see a DDS I immediately eat till 500 LP +
But when I see a Gmaul, I don't give a damn if i'm on 300 LP.
I'd say DDS all the way, you'd scare me

 

Personally, I use the Gmaul on my 1 def pure: Rune cross bow (or magic short) + normal gmaul hit + spec + spec is pretty ridiculous.

On any other account, I use a dds.

 

I am a avid fan of both weapons. It really depends on the situation for me. If I was fighting another pure I wouldn't mind going with either weapon but if I was fighting a range/def tank I would probably want to get some specs in with the DDs for the poison effect. Yeah you could say they have anti poison but you might as well make them use it while getting damage in.
