DFS Worth It?

I've got some extra money lying around right now, and I've been training melee recently and I was wondering if a DFS was even useful to get anymore in the long run?

Currently I'm training with the following:

Nezzy
Fury
Bandos Chest/Tassys
D Boots
Regen Brace (working on RFD)
Zerker
Whip
D Def

Occasionally I swap in full void depending on what I'm training on.

Are there any situations other than fighting dragons where a DFS would be useful for me? I mean it just seems like overall DFS is pretty useless nowadays. It's no longer good for bossing as using a deflector to give you other armour options is preferred, and spirit shields are better alternatives. It's no longer good for PK'ing because it has no soaking capabilities so a D square is preferred for tanking.

It really seems like the only use is maybe for farming frosties, which I have no intention of doing on my main.

However, I figured I should double check here to see if there are any training situations where using a DFS is superior to using a Dragon Defender?

 

I use it for Dragon tasks only on my main..kinda worthless now, you're correct, I like using my Dragon Defender and Whip, or SGS for Slayer now.

 

Dragon defender > dfs

 

If your at bosses etc DFS would probably be better, but if your training go with d def.

I use defender usually, but if you don't wanna spend anything for dfs, get a blessed ss. That's what I tend to use.

 

Dragonfire shield is totally useless in runescape today.
If you train use defender.
If you go to bandos use defender, spectral or divine.
If you go to armadyl use spectral,elysian or divine.
If you do slayer use defender.
Right now i dont see any point to buy dragonfire shield.

Don't even need dragonfire shield to kill dragons these days- we got herblore for that.


I am level 138, and last time i had dragonfire shield was back @ around combat 100(when spirit shields were over 100m and there was no super antifire).

 

only purpose for dfs is for dragons, might as well get super antifires

 

I'd say dragon defender unless your going to be taking bosses al the time.

 

For bosses I don't see why Spirit shields would be better. Dragonfire shield gives more Defence bonus PLUS a strength bonus.

 

Spectral has good magic defence which is really useful at godwars, lets not compare divine or elyisian to dfs.

 

so 30 magic defence sacrificed for like 10-20 defence in every other stat and 7 strength.

I don't get it.

 

Only defence you need to look at bandos are magic and range since you already use protect from melee.

But i am more of a solo guy so i don't know much about bandos group gears.

 

There are other PvM than bandos and wouldn't Tass+Karils and DFS be enough?

 

Might as well buy a dfs, since the prices are dirt cheap off late.

I prefer DFS.. if you can't afford for some reason, defender is also a great option. The DFS's defense is insanely higher than the defenders, and a better strength bonus..

 

I like DFS for the spec, it makes training more fun because of that.

However, go for whichever one you prefer.

 

But when do you ever need that extra defense bonus? The attack bonus of defender is actually a noticeable difference, but the defense bonus of the DFS makes no difference whatsoever when it comes to training, and as far as I'm concerned a good attack bonus > +1 strength (which increases your max hit by what, 3-5?). In bossing obviously it does but there are far better options for bossing.

And don't even get me started on how useless it is for pk'ing with the soaking update. Soaking made Dragon Square a better option for both ranged tanking and barrows tanking than DFS, which is just pathetic considering it's what? Less than 1/10th the cost? There is no reason whatsoever to use a DFS in pk'ing now, the only thing better than Dragon Square for pking is Ely/Div.

Of course some of this could be wrong, that's why I'm asking here but at this point after all the replies and some thinking on my own it's pretty clear DFS is pretty much worthless nowadays and is only over 10m due to rarity of visage.

 

DFS sucks , even Arcane is better and its just 2x it's price (slightly more when I come to think about it but worth every penny).
Go with the dragon def til you save enough money.
