Can you get a virus from a screensaver file?

Some dude was offering to buy my rs account and he sent me a screensaver file over msn and said it was a jpeg. but I had to run it to see it, and I know you dont have to do that with jpegs so I checked and it was a screensaver file.
Anyway, might I have a virus since I downloaded it but NOT run it? And might I have a virus if I would've run it anyway?

Yeah, you can save the rat file as .scr and make a .jpeg spoofer

 

I recommend getting rid of the file immediately an running scans on your computer.
NEVER accept files from people you don't know.
Even if you think it's 100% safe. Simply don't trust them.
