Can you buy things on steam etc. with paypal without verified credit card?

Just wondering.

 

You can't buy anything with paypal if you don't link a bank account or cc/debit to it.

Actually, you can, but just for a limited time only. I started up a PayPal account when I was not of legal age to own a debit card and sold some rsgp. I told buyers to send money to my PayPal account which had no debit card linked to it.

It worked for a while, but eventually when I started to send money off to buy rsgp and items on Steam, PayPal decided to limit my PayPal account usage until I linked a debit or credit card to it. (Meaning I can't send money out as payment)

 

When was this?

 

I'm guessing they received money from others.

 

Late 2013 if my memory still serves me well.

EDIT: Just deposited some money into my Steam wallet using my brother's Paypal account. Seems like if the PayPal that you are using has been recently used on another account, Steam will lock your Community Marketplace and Steam Wallet funds for 5 days, until it can 'Verified automatically'. If you want to bypass the Steam Wallet & Community Marketplace lock, you'd have to key in authorization codes from the receipts they sent you.

 

If you don't link your bank, you are considered unverified. I've been uncertified for almost 5 months and have had no problems buying and selling over 2k in transactions. My account did get limited at one point but I gave them a phone call and it was lifted without me having to add anything!

 

The story doesn't match your previous reply. I'm guessing your brother had a card already linked to the paypal. I remember having people send me money to a paypal in 2011 that wasn't linked to anything, and even with a positive pp balance, I was restricted from sending any money. I can't imagine them changing that rule, then reverting it again because it's still the same way it is now.

You don't have to be verified to send money, your limits are just restricted.

 

Because of I mentioned two different PayPal accounts? I no longer use the PayPal account I created anymore, since there is no more balance in the account. I used my brother's account since I still do not own a debit card.
