Convincing my dad to get T/M Rated games?

When I got my PS3 I thought I would be able to have fun in CoD and stuff, but my dad wouldn't let me even get T rated games. It's been over a year and while playing "kiddy" games with my sisters are still quite fun games like Black Ops and Uncharted 2/3 look awesome. The problem is, the policy still stands despite the high amount of reasoning and scientific evidence I present to him. Any tips on convincing him?

Well, I guess, you just got to not only convince him with words but also show him how the games are not that vulgar and are not going to affect your mindset. Does he accept adventurous games that are T Rated that have a bit of violence (not sure but I think Uncharted 2/3 are) or does he despite violence as a whole?

    I am 14.

And he just really hates violence as a whole, even when there is no blood.

I guest you'll just have to wait until your old enough. He'll have to let your hands go then, and you'll be able to play with freedom.

But there is one thing you can do if other methods don't convince him, if your mom is okay with you playing games that are in your age limit such as T Rated, you can buy and play T Rated games while your dad is out for work or outside in general. I think that is your best bet at this time.

Judging by the way it's been like this since I was 7, I don't think I will have "freedom" until I am 18 and leave the house :p

And I tried, mom is not as strict on this but just says I should only play games I can play with my sisters (they're 9, don't think that they can play cod with me).

Well he is the one paying for it and it sounds like it's supposed to be a shared gift. Tbh I'm glad there is one less squeeky voiced 14 year old I won't have to listen to =D

Real answer, get a job or gold farm some mills to sell on here for real cash and buy your own copy. Your dad should respect if you are old enough to make money that you can spend it, or just wait a year to get 15+ games

Go on your local Ad site, for example Kijiji(Canada) or Craigslist(USA), where people post ads for a lot of things. Buy the games people are selling, they probably won't care how old you are, and you might save a few bucks buying used. It probably won't matter if it's scratched or not, since it's Blu-Ray.

You: Why can't I play COD.
Dad: Too much violence, I don't like it.
You: Why don't you like me playing a game with some violence in it?
Dad: It's not good for your brain, I don't want you to.
You: Here is scientific evidence that says it's not bad for your brain.
    Dad: ... I don't want you to.
You: I don't want you to (Insert something you don't want him to do)
Dad: I'm your father, I'm older than you.
You: So, I'm older than my sister, does that mean I get to tell her what I want her to do? Also, just because your my father, doesn't mean whatever you say is right, I've already shown you that it's not bad for your brain, so why do you still not want me to. Every other kid in our school plays these games, are you better than all their parents?

Sometimes, it's REALLY tough to sway your parents mind, depending on how adamant they are. However, if you can get them to contradict and make themselves sound stupid, they will generally fold, and give in.

I believe your sister doesn't always play with you? If thats the case, then play the T/M Rated games while shes not and when she is playing, then play the kiddy games.

It depends on how strict your dad is to give a good logical tip, I've seen my share of very strict parents that make normal strict parents look bad, makes me proud to have the parents I have now :)

Just let time take its due course, and you will soon be able to buy without his permission

Thanks for the replies so far, guys, it's really helping me think over my current situation.

However, for those of you that are suggesting buying it with my own money, money isn't an issue, I've made sure I have enough to get the games. The problem is that my dad would take the game away and probably my PS3 if he found out, so the only solution would be to persuade him.

AHAHA, so true. I don't think there is anything you can really say to convince him, he seems pretty adamant on the situation..

Perhaps loan the game off a friend, and show your Dad it really isn't that bad.

Get him to think of the crazy stuff he did when he was younger. Get him to talk about stories of his past and how he was a wild child and did this and that. Then bring up the issue.

    Hope this helps!

Uhm, maybe I should mention that I'm Asian and that those tactics ^ don't work on Asian parents? :p

Me: But all the other kids play it!
Dad: All the other kids don't have perfect grades like you.
    Me: ...

@kmjt: The parent will most likely respond with 'The grades are for your well being, not mine.'

I suggest you take some time to sit down with your parents and simply state that you are older now. Don't just talk about gaming, talk about going out more often with friends, watching movies targeted at older audiences, etc. Then, casually slip in the gaming.

    Good luck.
