No, you idiot - we accept immigrants. We don't give a shit if 90% of our country is consisted of nothing but Mexicans. As long as they come here legally, that is frankly all that matters.

 

Because by coming here legally and filling through all the paperwork, the United States is able to weed out any potential criminals and other sorts. By doing so, it maintains the quality of the life within the nation.

Added, because it is against the law. If we disregard this law, why not disregard all of the others? By that sense, there would be rampant murder, raping, and looting - which obviously is not a good thing.

It devalues the work that legal immigrants had to go through in order to get into the United States as well. You could say both illegal and legal immigrants led difficult lives, but legal immigrants were willing to put forth the work to better their lives through process of paperwork, shouldn't they be rewarded?

The illegal immigrants also lack the ability to improve their social standing. You will never see an illegal immigrant work his way up and get a promotion because he or she will always be confined to under-the-table jobs. Those jobs not only normally underpay, but undermine United States citizens [legal immigrants included] and their market as well.

Consider the United States as an employer. Would we rather have someone with an upstanding resume [full documentation] or someone without any information at all applying for the same position [illegal]?

 

If they break the law whilst in your nation they will be caught and penalized.

 

They could make a law that says if anyone sees you they must shoot you. Using your logic, as long as people shoot you that's all that matters.

 

Since when did I support shooting anyone? By your logic, stealing a candy bar and killing a man is under the same principle.

A law such as that, we all know, will never pass or even be proposed. Your argument is based on a vaguely invalid theoretical law, which in like makes your argument just as vague and invalid.

Ok...so by that argument, if you break the law and complain about any illegal activity, it would be hypocritical. If tonight, your family was killed by a drunk driver, you should not want to do something to crack down on driving under the influence. After all, it would be hypocritical to do so, considering that you have broken laws in your lifetime.

I didn't present the idea of shooting people who cross the border. In fact, I believe that earlier in the thread I posted that I was against that idea.
I am not an expert on international border security. However, I think that an effort should be made to keep this country safe. Going beyond drug trafficking, there is the very real possibility terrorists can smuggle weapons into the country. I think that is a serious enough possibility to make an effort.

Yes, anyone can make weapons anywhere. Therefore, we should take our border security as seriously as we do domestic security.

I believe there are a number of non-lethal weapons that can be utilized by border security guards (Riot guns, tasers, etc.).

 

And this will be the result:
Border security runs into people looking for better life, beats and tazes them brutally.

Border security runs into drug runners:
Get shot to death and leads to public outcry and border security being armed once again.

Better to have open borders and change your foreign policy.
