Things you believed as a kid

What were things you believed to be true as a kid, only to realize they weren't as you grew older?

For me, it was thinking that ATM's gave infinite money or however much you desired. I learned the truth around age 7 when I went to the bank with my uncle and the teller explained it to me. Looking back at it was stupid because my dad would always complain about money.

 

No god; learned this when I was around grade 6/7.

 

Santa

 

at a very young age i believed we were out of water when my mom turned off the faucet in our kitchen

 

I thought cartoon characters absolutely had to be based on someone in real life. So I thought Arnold from Hey Arnold that there was actually a guy with a football shaped head out there...

 

I believed the tooth fairy was real when I was about 5 or 6 until I pretended to be asleep one night to see what she looked like and caught my mom sneaking money under my pillow.

 

I believed that the Earth was just a marble and the universe was the marble bag. I came to think of this because of a scene at the very end of Men In Black. Of course at the age of four, I had convinced myself of this.

 

I used to think I'd make something of myself

 

Initially struggled with wondering if life insurance was literally paying x amount of money and you'd get a new life since technically that's what it should be but I was fairly certain wasn't possible

 

I used to believe that santa was real, until I sneaked out at night to see my parents putting down presents under the christmas tree when I was 5/6ish

 

I used to the think that the pilgrims initially found Plymouth rock and North America and that we settled here peacefully after a long journey across the sea and that eventually we all formed the United States... In reality we murdered, pillaged, and raped all the Native American lands and that it was probably the most horrendous act ever committed by americans.

If you jumped into a plug hole you could teleport anywhere u wanted around the world

 

When I was a kid, I always thought we had super powers waiting to be tapped into. I watched way too much Anime/cartoons back then.

 

Popcorn grew into popcorn trees. Watermelon seeds would kill you if you ate them. Water had to be drained from the back of a pickup truck. I would be permanently dead by the time I was 18.

 

That the Harlem Globetrotters were real as shit.

 

The term "shit the bed."
I always thought "shit the bed" = broken.
I always used to go, "well my laptop shit the bed" and my parents would give me weird looks until I learnt "shit the bed" means someone who has to get up early.

 

What. Here in Canada shit the bed = broken.

When I was little I thought if you spelt the f word with a pause in the middle it made it okay to do at school. I was mistaken.

 

Lol I was going to say the same thing but it took me a second to get it. Chloe was making a joke. If you shit the bed, you're gonna have to get up early.
