Zeah Release - Thoughts?

As you may or may not know, Zeah is a new continent that's coming to OSRS - the first phase of it is being released on January 7th aka only 3 more days (more information here: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/...thing_you_need_to_know_about_zeah_before_its/ ).

Who else is excited for it? I've always thought of OSRS as a kind of alternative timeline for RS before Jagex killed the game with stupid updates, but the fact that all new content is gated by polls and enters at such a slow pace was kind of frustrating. I'm glad that we're finally getting content on a larger scale along with a new quest. The lore/questing aspect of RS was always a particularly strong point, and even though we're never going to get redundant content like elf/gnome/vampire quests - meaning I'll actually have to play RS3 to figure out what happens - MM part 2 is good enough I guess.

So, what kind of preparations have you guys done for Zeah? I haven't done much myself, but no doubt it would have been smart to invest in certain items/skills to get the maximum benefit right away. I'll probably post again with my thoughts after Zeah hits.

 

Another good question would be what it'll do to the economy? How far will gp rise/fall? I'd assume it'll rise since people will want to do the new content in good gear and that'd require some GP?

 

I'm just waiting for Monkey Madness 2. Going to be awesome.

 

I'm very excited for this update, I have been for a long time.

It's supposed to bring a 50% increase in map size to the whole of Gielinor, which I thing should bring a lot of new content to go check. Supposedly there will also be a new boss or range of bosses. They should provide some op drops hopefully, at least for awhile. There is also some kind of Colosseum/Duel Arena being released, so uh, that should be interesting.

 

I just hope it lives up to the hype. OSRS is in desperate need of new/good content.

 

Hope the PKing aspect of it is good, not much of a skiller

Looks pretty cool, more than I expected. Also, "Mermaid storage unit"

 

Looking forward to exploring Zeah, and hope the farming minigame does actually give a watering can that never runs out.

Are there any possible gold farming opportunities? I haven't looked yet and cba.

 

I'll play devil's advocate on this one. I'm traditional. I started RS through the first versions of the game. I think 07.old school runescape should be just that.. 07 runescape. Adding an update of this size changes everything. To me, that isn't desireable. Changing something that works is how RS3 became as shitty as it is.

 

Not too sure of this as not a whole lot of specifics have been released - for sure there's going to be a new mining method and also blood/soul altars. I also think there is a fair bit of Zeah-only content as in some stuff can only be obtained on the continent and can't be brought off. Guess we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

From talking to some people it seems like a big concern is that it'll be a slippery slope from here to another RS3-esque update that ended up killing the game, and I can definitely see where that idea is coming from (I myself am not a big fan of some of the newer graphics because it reminds me of the RS3 style). But I do feel that this kind of update was desperately needed... maybe in the beginning nostalgia was enough to keep us playing but now it's just like any other game that needs new updates and content to keep it exciting and the playerbase interested. For a long time, a lot of good proposed content has failed in the polls because people were scared of anything changing the game too much, which was kind of frustrating (I mean, almost 3 years with not a single new quest). I'm thinking of having an update of this size as just making up for the lack of regular new content that we've had so far..

 

I'm excited for the updates. My only concern is if they release weapons or armour lots that are too over powered like they did on 3. As long as it sticks to its 07 roots it should be decent

 

Anyone know what date Zeah is actually being released? Or has it not been dated yet?

There's a lot of memes.... I'll let that speak for itself.

I dig the map, I'm thinking the overall visual design should be pretty neat to see because they've certainly put time into things like armor design as well (see below)

I'm not sure about GP but I can see the new items accompanying the release being exorbitantly priced and consequently leading to a lot of merching. For example, if armor sets like this are tradeable I can foresee them being in high demand if not for their statistical bonuses at least for the novelty/cosmetic factor.

 

I hope this combat ring provides some afk training method.

I like the idea of new content, but not sure.. Ive been walking around for the past 2h not knowing what to do there...

 

shit. Jagex succeed every year with coming out with shit content, that is something they do really well, i had high hopes for this and oh man what a let down it is..

 

The armor looks cool, but the stats are absolutely horrible - worse than mith.

I'm a little disappointed with the release too... all of the memes really cheapen the dialogue/lore and I can already tell there's going to be a lot of dead content (like the armor ^ and new spellbook). This is only one part of the release though, I hope Jagex works with all the feedback that they're going to be getting..
