Doxing Streamers?

So a buddy of mine that often streamed legacy pking recently had to quit streaming rs, because he was getting doxed by a certain individual. If you don't know already, doxing, is the act of releasing someones private information, such as addresses, phone numbers, etc. My question is, why do people dox streamers? My buddy only had around 50-100 viewers each time he got on so he wasnt that huge of a streamer, he was also a very nice guy that never trashed talked anyone. I get why people like "thebaby123" on twitch get doxed, as he is often shit talking, in addition to the fact that he has public mugshots of him from when he got arrested for selling some weed to an undercover cop. So why do people dox people that have done absolutely nothing wrong?

 

Because they can, and to them it's fun. Why do trolls troll nice people? Same reason.

They just get enjoyment out of it and therefore keep doing it repeatedly.

 

Because nerds can be serious assholes. They have power on the internet that they otherwise wouldn't have. Combine that power with anonymity and you get exactly those people.

They get a sense of achievement whenever they do stuff like this and they love to see their reactions

 

There is a positive side to this. He will learn how to be more secure and more anonymous online. He should continue streaming if that's what he likes to do. Just use a unique password to avoid any hackings and then the doxing part shouldn't really matter. You can change most of that information.

funny thing is the idiot tried to scare me by calling my phone, funny part is he dint block his number, so now i have his number, and could easily fuck with him if i ever get bored.

 

I think they target streamers because they can actually see their real-time reactions of them when they post them in the chat. All they want is your reaction and for you to either rage or start crying.

I've attended a few 4chan raids on Twitch streams, they don't usually start doing seriously mean stuff unless the streamer is a dick to them. One time I did see them manage to get one 12 year old SWATed, although he knocked his PC off at the wall before they kicked his bedroom door in, you could hear them in the house and see the sirens' reflection outside though.

You prank call the swat team and get them to come to someone's house. Basically you say like theres a bomb in the house or something, and then they are required to come. It's super illegal tho.

If you can't handle the fame don't stream. I don't understand why being doxed is so bad. The worst that could happen is someone calls your phone if your number even gets leaked? It's all about a reaction for these guys... Poker face.

 

As far as I know there was a load of hype surrounding streamers being swatted live on camera. My guess is, that's the aim for many. As unfortunate as it is, doxing is becoming more and more common and the majority just do it for the hell of it, so they can exert their superiority and watch their victims fall back into a corner. It's essentially entertainment for whoever's pushing the buttons. It's pretty twisted but if you can maintain a brave face and laugh at frivolous threats, they grow tired and bored real quick. I've personally sent my full name, address and phone number to a kid that was trying to chew on my back. Never heard from him again.

 

Now he can have stuff sent to your house in your name, order pizzas and even call a SWAT raid if he's really intendant on it.

 

Basically cause people are dicks and wanna see these streamers get pranked with swat raids and pizza and shit...

 

I find it hilarious how some of you are saying "what's so bad about a dox?" when there is a lot more things than just prank calling you or SWATing you. People can grab your SSN while doxing you. They can grab even more like CC information, it's not just something you brush off, lol.

Called pizzas to my boy as a prank, they ended up giving it to him for free. Ain't no SWAT in UK ^_^
