    Why 2007scape will fail.

here are the top reasons why a new server will not work.

    1) You are not 12 - Although it may be hard to see for some specific people, we have in our own ways, all grown up. We were the early Runescape generation that got to experience the game evolve. This being said, at the age of 12, we saw Runescape as a technologically advanced game, we didn't ask for better graphics because we had not seen what the graphics team is capable of yet, we were young so therefore we did not expect majorly difficult quest storylines or boss fights, and the extremely basic weapons suited out mental capacities. Nowadays with everyone anticipating the NEXT BIG BOSS!@! or grandmaster quest, the 2006 game would become very boring, very quickly.

    2) Nostalgia - The other day, I went into my cellar and buried behind a box of my kickboxing equipment I found my old Dragon Ball Z action figures. The site of Goku, Piccolo, Gohan and the gang brought a giant smile to my face as I remembered the good times I had prior to technology. I then tossed them back into the box because I knew I would not expect myself to go upstairs and play with them. Believe it or not, nostalgia is NOT permanent. It wears off at an incredibly fast speed and that is what will happen if the 2006 or any other server is made. People will rush to the game for a week or so, and then log off.

    3) Lack of people - Prior EOC, the Runescape game was already going into a steep decline of players. Once the EOC hit, many players including myself quit simply because we could not be bothered to learn an entirely new system for a game that we no longer obsess over. If a separate server opened, the current game community would become divided even further and do not expect long lost players to spontaneously return and become permanent players. People who quit the game now have quit for such a large period of time that they have no interest in playing a game that they played when they were 12 (they may check it out for nostalgia and then leave)

    4) No clans - It is common knowledge that starting a new clan for the last few years is a death sentence from the start. It can't be done. The old Runescape thrived off clans and simply put, without them the game would not function. Sure you would have the odd leader trying to form a 2006 clan, but players would be missing and unenthusiastic.

    5) Skills - This is a funny one, remember people; bonfires, Runespan, Ivy, Living rock caverns, Summoning, and ALL the "easy" ways of training skills did not exist in the past game, this is all fairly new stuff, do you really think people are going to try their firemaking level using lines now that they are spoiled using bonfires? Hell no.

    6) Pking - Player killing was enjoyable in 2006 but the only reason for it was because a full set of Rune was considered a decent loot. Add to that, the Rune 2hr being a powerful weapon you now have a recipe for disaster if you try recreating this. The current game as well as pre Eoc was riddled with hundreds of possible ways to kill your opponent and do you really think grown men are going to stand around a there characters slap one another with a rune scim waiting for the moment when you can pull out a Rune 2hr? Not going to happen, it will get boring. It was fun back then because that was all we knew and we were kids but not anymore.

    7) No New Generation - The argument that, "well we loved Runescape 2006, so the kids of today will love it too and we will have a new community" does not work. Kids nowadays are growing up with Call of Duty and games with excellent graphics compared to Runescape 2006 so a game such as that would be a laugh for them. With not even a shred of new players entering the new server, it will die very quickly.

    8) No update - Remember the purpose of a separate server is to preserve the past, and be sure to expect complaining such as

"well Jagex we enjoyed Runescape 2006, but perhaps you can add in godswords to this server? and maybe vengeance...? And perhaps all the grandmaster quests...?"

It will never end until you end up with PRE-EOC Runescape at which point you will have a game full of 20 year old men screaming, "the combat system is not balanced! fix this Jagex!"

    Enter Evolution of combat era.

Edit:credit goes to a mate of mine who made this thread on another forum

Except that you forget that there are bots, there is a black market to drive people to level in order to profit off the game, and people love to pk with or without a group of friends or a 100+ member clan.

And, there are very possible going to be updates...

You friends whole post is complete speculation...

Edit: Player base could be a toss up, it's going to be hard to tell. Already, a ton of people are coming back, but if they stay or leave, only time will tell.

    1. I dont agree im really old school in everything specially in game.
    2. Dont compare figures with runescape.
    3. That might be but if theres over 100k active player ill live with it.
    4. I dont mind my clan is mostly friends in my fl.
    5. THATS THE REASON WHY EOC SUCKS theres no more prestige being lvl 99Firemaking or any other easy boring skills.
    6. How much do you think a full rune worth with a fresh starts???? How much the first whip will sell?? $$$$$$$$$
    7. If only Rs07 could be 16+ even 18+
    8. :) I dont want jagex to update this game.

    Made me lol.

Why do you have to bring the game down? If you don't want to play it then don't. But seriously If you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all.

    Why 2007scape will fail.

It could be true and it may not.

Sure, I won't be playing the 3+ hours I played when I was 13, but I may still play a few hours total a week.

Honestly, I prefer the msb to g maul and range to 2h over the OP claws and gas, even those are a lot of fun when rushing, it didn't always make for gameplay that kept you interested.

It seemed to easy for me, hence, the challenges of range 2h pking etc.

But then again, everyone is different, 20+ year olds will play 15+ hours a week while 13 year olds may play only a few.

So, like I said before, I feel like we have to wait and see before assuming it's going to die or not die.

    But that's my opinion.

all of the points u make up (well most i skimmed thru it make a tl;dr version) are for the current newfags. Who cares about them, the people who have actually played in 06/07 know how much fun it was. It's people like you who will make the game die with your negative comments.

Meh, sounds like you're just trying to suck the fun out of it honestly. Or your friend, whoever created this post.

The fact people won't take it as seriously is a good thing, it is just a neat little thing to have.

    Why 2007scape will fail.

yes but we are 18-24 and playing other games such as LoL, CoD, etc. we wouldn't be back if we had "grown out of gaming". what made runescape so good back then was because of it's simplicity. everyone knew it had shitty graphics and we would have played other games had it been the reason we gamed. the combat system, the economy, everything was simple yet at the same time very time consuming to master. which is what keeps everyone logging back in.

that is a horrible analogy. firstly, "toys" are designed for 5 year olds. runescape, although seemingly simple is designed for mature thinkers. nostalgia will bring the oldies back in, but the game being purely fucking awesome will keep us all around.

back in 2007 you could see upwards of 250k+ people online at one time. it's only been declining because of all the shitty updates that killed the game for all old players, making a lot of leveling up redundant for the oldfags when they released new ways of leveling. 2007 runescape were the glory days for a lot of players where the game was near perfect, even still relevant to a lot of us people who have quit for 5+ years.

this is a really stupid and blind point... well actually the game functioned regardless of clans. nowhere does it say "game will not work without clans" it's a solo game for the most part in terms of leveling. i can't even make sense of this

umm, yes, they will. keep it simple, stupid. the reason many players quit, as i said before, was because jagex released these new methods of leveling faster thus making all the work done by people from 2001-2008 a waste of time. it's a level playing field again.

no wants to factor in 100s of possible ways of dieing in the wilderness anyway. again, keeping it simple with the original combat triangle of melee, ranged and magic. worked wonders and the wilderness alone kept thousands and added thousands of players. whoever wrote this point probably never experienced 2007 wildy when it peaked. i can't even say anymore than there is a lot more to it then just slapping each other with swords. due to its simplicity everyone had dreams of being a legendary PKer but due to its nature and mechanics it was very hard to master.

it's like CoD/Halo any other killing game. the thrill of killing others keeps you playing. throw in loots just makes it even more appealing. rs wildy circa 2007 was truly the epitome of player vs. player fights

the game is easily still relevant in todays world. this point is more subjective but i'm fairly confident there will be a stable userbase and thus word of mouth spreading the game naturally. the only way i can see the growth being stunted is if it is forever a p2p game. however, jagex would be foolish to leave it like that.

the exact point is that we don't want updates. we want 2007 back because that is what we feel the perfected version of runescape. new users to 2007 will realize you don't need godswords and that other shit pretty quickly. as i said before in regards to the combat system, the combat triangle was perfect. doesnt even need to be touched.

but the bottom line is we, the players of the glory days of runescape, are very happy with what's being brought back. if you don't want to play it, that's fine because we don't give a fuck. if you think it needs godswords and pets and other gay shit, go back to the current runescape AKA the poverty version of WoW.

Good Points, its to early to tell if it will fail or not like people have said old players are coming back such as myself, who knows maybe the game might become popular and reach its peak because of RS 2007.

    Why 2007scape will fail.

What is this, I don't even...

Or maybe, just maybe... People will come back and realize that they fucking wasted their time years ago.

Or we all found other games with actual game play and entertainment value beyond clicking something and going afk.

    Rose tinted glasses much?

One of the reasons I quit back in 07 was because of how fucking slow and tedious leveling was.

The only thing I'll ever give RS is the fact that it had a manly as fuck system of fuck your loot it's gone. If you were to separate that factor, pvp in runescape was as dull as dishwater.

If you're a mindless drone you might be happy, but most users won't be happy with stagnation.

I played from 2005-2007 myself, and honestly I think you're looking at this through rose tinted glasses. The game may have given me some "fun" moments, but honestly I could never see myself ever getting back into that sort of grind of a game.

    Why 2007scape will fail.

Load of DI members are coming back. These are people who quit mid way during 2006, and most would be in their early/mid 20's now.

I agree that it will never be the same. I don't have the time I did when I was in year 6/7/8/9/10. The aspect of discovery and enjoyment will be different, as I've already experienced it all before.

It won't be a new game, as it was back then, it will more so become a race to the top, as everyone already has and knows what they plan to do. It's not new ground.

Read all of it, and for my case it's all invalid. Played 2006Scape, got an total level ~1000, would of still been playing it if 2007Scape wasn't coming out.
And I bet I'm not the only one.
