Why do you think Jagex is turning RS to shit?

Most of us know that within each update RS is turning into shit. Yes some people actually enjoy the updates including EoC.. But lets be real the majority of us DO NOT WANT THIS SHIT.

I've been reading the Jagex forums and they had a interview with the mods and it's all about their plans with the game. They say EoC is just that start. They talk about how the reason most of the players want the old RS is because of the fond memories we had during this time period. I partially agree but it's not entirely true..

They want to upgrade the game to future as they say.. What? Adding advanced combat and combat bar for our abilities is the future of online games? Pretty sure this has been out forever.. And us RS players know this. The REASON why most of players that want the OLD RS back is because how good it was. I don't know about you guys but I enjoyed RS for it being simple. Not for the new graphics, new weapons, new combat, etc. IF I wanted this I would of played WoW or something along the line. And yes I did quit RS a bit to play WoW for a few years and I've had a great experience with WoW.

The reason I think Jagex is turning the game into shit is because of them being blind. They believe doing massive updates will bring new and old players back. Why would a new player want to play Runescape with the new updates knowing they could play WoW, with the game content Jagex is pushing, at a better, organized, and funner pace? And I'm sure as hell don't know why an old player would want to play RS with these shitty updates.

They are blind of why people want to play RS, it's for the simplicity not the game content they're currently pushing.

And yes I know this doesn't go for everyone, alot of players do like the updates and would play RS for the game content Jagex is pushing due to it being cheaper, etc.

I prefer runescape before the eoc but crying about it on a forum isn't going to change anything, unfortunately.

55% of jagex was purchased by Insight Venture Partners which is a leading global private equity and venture capital firm based in the united states. Seems like they are trying to make the game a more attractive main stream type game for new players.

 

It's about the figures now. You have to realize RS isn't the same ol' independent company game we all used to know it to be. Whoever the new CEO is doesn't have the same personal attachment to the game as Andrew did, so the main purpose is to compete with the competition (Other MMORPGs). For all of us who leave the game because we can't stand the drastic changes, new numbers will come in to replace us. Simple as that.

Edit: Though I didn't really have a specific moment when I quit, I haven't actively played aside from the few occasions when I make a transaction with RSGP in some years now. I suggest you probably just do the same because I promise you it won't return to the same state it once was. As of now, it was just a legacy.

 

because you ARE crying about it, your speculation and whining isnt going to change anything. This thread has been made a dozen times or more in the past 2 months, its whining bs and should be against the rules. Dont come to runescape general if you hate runescape.

 

Their not, they are attempting to attract a new variety of players, I've played the game since 2004 and to be honest I actually quite like the updates. But the updates are trying to attract new players, I think that Jagex will try and remove most/if not all bots in the recent future, even though they are mega income for them (membership costs)

Investors now control Runescape (if you have over 51% shares in a company, you control what happens). Obviously investors are going to try to get money out of it, because that's what an investment is, hence the Squeal of Fortune and Solomon's General Store.

Despite all the updates, Runescape is still a relatively brain dead game in comparison to others. You click and you wait or if it is combat you click and click a bit more then wait. Other games require you to use the keyboard to move, etc. Runescape is still relatively primitive.

I think the case for the people that have stopped playing RS due to EOC is that they simply have fond memories of what they did on RS and the new look of RS has shattered this. I also think however, that these players, as they play mostly for the fond memories would have quit RS had it not been updated anyways.

Not to mention that if a game doesn't change, people will quit it anyways as things that don't change go stagnant.

 

I think it's a bit naive saying 'turning the game to shit', obviously some people like it or they wouldn't do it.. The new owners are more business minded, and they must believe this is more of a commercially viable structure

 

Agree with OP, I like WoW even more now after the eoc.

RS, will never beat wow. Even though it's trying to be WowScape.

Yah runescape lost its niche because of eoc. I played wow and rs but now i just play wow. If i play an action bar game im not going to do it in a shitty graphics browser one

Jagex are trying to milk as much money out of the game with solomon's store and Sof. Since all the old players are quitting, they're trying to suck in new players with eyecandy like the Eoc.

 

The problem is that if they want to keep making money, they need to change things up so people play their games. Sure, all of us video game addicts love it, but the game has nothing to keep someone who doesn't play mmos or rpgs interested when there's all this new shit out with other games... They need new players to make more money and they're at the point where they're doing as much as they can.

 

I've loved the recent updates.

EoC was good, most updates were good, the only one I've had which I haven't liked recently was SOF. I can see the 2 new skills bringing back old players as well as bringing in new ones.

 

Exactly as kill dank says, the people looking at this update and saying it is the wrong move are the old customers of Jagex products. The company is looking to expand, so the real opinion which matters is that of a brand new player. Brand new players in this era expect more from a game than one-click combat. People in general demand more from games as time carries on, and the developers must make the tough call to make big changes.

This update was never expected to be perfect from launch. It will take tweaking, updating, and feedback to get the combat system where it needs to be. Betas can only go so far, games these days are technically still in beta forever. By launching the update publicly, they can gather WAY more information than a closed beta. So right now you are essentially playing a grass-roots beta version of EOC. It will not be the same beast one year from now.

People need to have long-term vision on these updates. Yes, this is a big change, and it could bite Jagex right in the ass. To make such a huge change to your product is always a risk. However, this is a risk which the company feels has a huge potential payoff. Should this update eventually succeed in attracting and retaining more new players, the game will grow, which is imperative to long-term success. The other option, to leave it the same, results in the company just working to retain its current customers, who will slowly but surely migrate towards other platforms. Without new players to replace the ones they are losing, this will always result in a dead game eventually. Adding a new quest / new area / new weapon really doesn't affect a new player. The game has plenty of content already.

If you want an example of this, take a look at RSC. Sure, many will say it's a good game, and has the grass roots of Runescape, but guess what... No new players are attracted to RSC. It just retains its old customer base, and this eventually dwindles down to the 100-200 people we see online today. Without support from RS2, RSC would be a completely discontinued project.

This is not an industry in which you can sit back and relax on your product. It is the ultimate example of evolution. If you do not keep up with the times and implement new and advanced content, the herd will migrate elsewhere.

 

From Jagex's point of view, they believe they are making it better. Jagex are looking at the future and their future players who will be playing, not the old and moody ass players. At the end of the day, it's a game. I don't care what they change, I'll play it now and then when I'm bored.
