A little issue with my monitor or computer, help?

So basically I'll be using my computer for whatever and it'll just suddenly stop and go blank. The computer will still be on but the screen will come to a dull stop and the monitor will try searching for an input but to no prevail before going into a sleepy sort of mode.

Has anyone had this problem before? It's sort of hard to identify if the problem lies within the computer or the monitor so maybe you can help me with that? If so, what should I do to fix it?

I'm still under warranty and can send it back but that is that thing I want to do last so hopefully it's repairable!

    Thanks,

    yd.

It sounds like you have a bad monitor. Get a new one, if it is under warranty, and that should help.

Are you sure? Sometimes it goes black and comes back with an error about a graphic failing or something, I can never remember what it says.

Take a screenshot, or picture from your phone next time it does it.

Could you put the monitor into another input on the computer?

I tried putting a different HDMI port into it and even used a DVI, no result.

And you've tried both ports from the graphics card and motherboard?

Well assuming you have a discreet graphics card, there should be ports directly to your graphics card, and directly to your motherboard.

If you can open your case it'd be easy to tell.

I'll open my case tomorrow if it occurs again and have a snoop.

    Thanks!

Firstly, try and use the monitor with a whole different computer. If it works, you know the problem lies in your computer.

If it doesn't work, the problem lies within your monitor, so go get a new one.

If you do not have another computer to try it on, plug the computer into a different monitor, or even TV using HDMI. If it works, you know the problem is the monitor, if it doesn't, the problem is the computer.

I'll do that tomorrow, thanks! It's quite a rare occurrence but I want to get it fixed before my warranty becomes void.

Yes, attach any other monitor with your computer and I think its the monitor fault which can't adjust graphics of your computer. You are using the term "monitor", are you still using CRT monitor? if so, go for a new LCD monitor instead.

You should definitely hook it up to another monitor and see if it works. Once you know your problem, you can go about it easier.

Change monitors, and test a different GPU if possible.

Same thing happened to my brothers PC(sorta). Bluescreened, then wouldn't show anything on screen whenever we tried to turn it on. GPU died. afaik.
