Best gangster movies of all time?

American Gangster is definitely my favorite by far. Ridley Scott is wonderful!

 

"Goodfellas" is on the top of my list, it's got a wonderful cast and Ray Liotta is superb in it, as well as Joe Pesci. The soundtrack is one of my favourite film soundtracks as well.



Secondly would be "Once Upon A Time In America", James Wood's is fantastic as well as Robert De Nero also.



Thirdly, "Eastern Promises" is a modern gangster film, it involves Russian criminals and I think it's Viggo Mortenson's best film to date. The special effects used in it are superb.

 

I absolutely loved Casino and Goodfellas!

 

I just want to second Donnie Brasco, amazing movie. For some that weren't mentioned yet, the new Lawless movie was decent, another good one is The Town, which is an American Crime style movie, I don't normally like Ben Aflec but he did good in The Town. If you want a good Gangster/Mob style comedy check out My Blue Heaven, it is funny and good.

 

Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.

 

I enjoyed public enemies. It is about a gangster in the 1920's and is portrayed by Johnny Depp.

 

Hey you can watch "American Gangster" i've seen it like three times its about one of New York biggest gangsters i believe his name was Frank Lucas, it's really a great film and the ending is awesome and its based all on true storie

 

I know it's not a movie, but check out Boardwalk Empire if you're looking for a new show to watch. Season 3 just started and it's definitely one of my favorite series. Created by Terence Winter (The Sopranos) and Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Departed, Taxi Driver). It also has a lot of good actors including Steve Buscemi as lead character, Nucky Thompson, and Stephen Graham as Al Capone.

surprised no one has mentioned "the harder they come" great classic gangster flick . definitely worth seeing, im also a huge fan of scorseses and tarrintinos gangster films as well

 

I think "the Godfather" is the best gangster movie of all time. Other than that, I'm also a big fan of "La Haine", which is a french gangster movie starring Vincent Cassel.

 

A bronx tale is good too..
