Anyone else noticing this?

Todays captcha's are getting more and more difficult.
I don't know if it's just me but, I'm having to refresh them like 5 times to find one I can actually read without having to go 2cm away from my screen.

Captcha's help prevent bots but, this is a image of a regular captcha that you see quite often:


This is an image of TinyPic's required captcha:


That's a huge difference and yet, TinyPic has hardly any botted images.
I also see other 'larger' companies and sites using easier captcha's, it's wierd.
Your thoughts?

 

I totally feel you, now the only reasonably ones are from Tinypic, which you mentioned.

 

I've noticed the trend as well. There are some now that I really struggle with and will often just press the button for a new one.

With OCR technology advancing pretty rapidly, it's what they have to do to stay ahead.

 

I just keep refreshing until I find one that I can read without moving closer to the screen :L
However, with your point about the technology advancing, surely there are better ways to prevent it than to make almost every captcha unreadable.

 

Lol sometimes I actually have to put my face in front of the monitor to see.

it took me like 50 tries to register on sythe. Iam starting to think captcha's are bullshit.

 

Captcha's have a high value, and pretty soon most captcha's you see will be advertisements in captcha form. It's a way to monetize.

The difficulty of captchas has always varied greatly, some sites use a simple 'click the number shown', whereas I've seen a few that require entering a passcode hidden within the text of the captcha (meant to trick auto-solvers).

Point of the fact is, users cannot be trusted without first confirming who they are. Just like you wanting to talk to live support when you call a company, a company wants a live individual when you attempt to use their services. Dealing with bots creates an array of issues.

But yea I agree, todays captchas are ridiculously hard.

 

They piss me off especially when I'm using my Iphone....

I like the "What's 7 + 5 - 2" ones instead

 

I struggle to read a lot of them, I wish they were all just clear, randomized, but clear.

 

5 times? I refresh it mostly 10-15 times, till i get one which I actually can read lol.

In my opinion, it is ridiculous to have that kind of difficult captcha..

 

ya and this stuff pisses me off. they jam letters together and shit. Ive seen ones tht could easily be an I or an L. Ive seen ones tht could be an L and an I or a U, or even a I and a J. and no matter what i guess, its usually wrong.

 

I've seen this before on tinypic already. One time I even had to watch a video before the letters appeared.

 

Ridiculous. There should be a way to combat that.

I remember when everyone was up in arms about the youtube advertisements. Now it just seems normal. I'm still pissed about them.

 

Yeah it's really weird! Have you seen the captchas for the voting sites? They are like impossible to solve

 

I thought I was the only one thinking that they are getting harder and harder.
I have to refresh them all the time, and hope a good one pop's up.

I've been struggling with their images lately, it just comes to a point where I have to refresh a few times or get it wrong. And this is the first time they had ads, although it was a good move on their part.
