Member Of The Month Fun Rank Award

In the previous thread Nick said to make a new suggestion with ideas for competitions where people can win fun ranks.

I think most people agreed that it would be best to give them out to people who win the Member Of The Month award(s).

Edit: This would actually be too commonplace, so I think that a competition every 3 months where people are voted on to win a rank would be better, more fair, and more fun.

 

No support, if this was implemented, I believe it would be way too common, figuring the rank would be distributed 12 times every year, and secondly, the staff would probably have a hard time picking a member of the month.

 

No support, eventually we'd just have too many of them, plus there's just no need for it. The way fun ranks are given currently is fine as it is.

 

No support for reasons stated above, the rank would get over used very fast, and would defeat the purpose, but I do think that the rank should be given to certain members, for doing certain things, and should be distrusted to 3 - 5 members per year. (Somewhere along those lines)

 

Hmmm, what if it was every 3 months, or every 6 months?

 

Too many people will get them and it will always be the popular people like yourself winning, maybe every 3 months and a miscellaneous way of winning it.

 

I like the idea but favouritism and recency play a huge factor in what people decide to who is MoTM, most people only look at the most current activities somebody has done rather than the entire activity throughout the month, also in most competitions it was biased towards friends and most voted based on what others had chosen, I can guarantee most people didn't go through their candidate's posts or threads to check what they had done all month. If the competition is every 3 months most members won't look at what happened in month 1 and 2 only what happened in the 2 weeks prior to the voting.

 

If that were the case, then it would be on the community's shoulders as a whole. If it is based on a competition that is community wide, then how can anyone be accused of being bias? If 30+ people voted, how is someone going to say its unfair?

 

How about person with the most legitmate spam reports gets it.

 

I was going to suggest this. Spam and Scam reports. Of course, submitting reports that are invalid should play a role as well, to prevent people from reporting everyone.

 

That would be a bother to count, and due to the fact that people would begin posting everything that resembles spam, would result in a ton of extra work for the mods.

 

I'm with this. Nobody looks further than the last week or month.

You can say who cares it's on the community, but it isn't really fair at all. Then it'll cause argument and so on.

Anyways, a member of the month rank would be better suited. And once the month is over it'll go to the new member of the month. So only 1 member would have it per month - this still makes it isn't over flooded and the community can earn a fun rank.

Exactly! Its for fun! If everyone stops taking them so seriously, and just uses them for fun then they will stop loosing sleep at night about how unfair/bias/corrupt it would be. If we stop treating them like they are the most important thing ever, then people won't care as much and will be far less likely to complain about how they didn't win the competition.

 

I support member of the month rank, not a funk rank every month. Else everyone would have one and they would mean nothing. A member of the month rank every month sounds good, where if you win it you get the rank for one month, and the next you loose it and it goes to another member

 

Even if we had this implemented, it wouldn't work for one reason: not enough votes in the MoTM. I usually try to get 3 pages of votes before I tally them up and post results. Without 3 pages, the MoTM is just cancelled.

 

What do they mean in the first place? Apparently they mean that the person who receives them is a highly trusted and respected member who earned his rank by crossing the seven seas of avalon and slaying the powerful dragon. Is that really what we want? They are for fun, not for being ultimate symbols of trust.

 

Perhaps the MotM could choose his own rank picture, as $300+ donors can, so it would be somewhat of a "fun rank" albeit temporary.

 

I support the specific MOTM reward which goes away after that month is over.
