Saw this a while back. It sounds and looks cool as shit but will we ever see it? It's been talked about now for like 1-2 years and every time they release something new they go quiet for long periods of time. Imo if it was as big of a deal as they make it out to be in the vids they'd be promoting it all over hell and back. I've also heard (though not seen any of the technical details) that this doesn't apply to anything animated. Basically it only works on static objects. The only practical application for it would be a hybrid of this technology and standard polygon rendering. It would still be a huge leap forward but if we're going for immersion here, static environments really don't seem that appealing imo.

I didn't notice any dynamic lighting or shadows either. That's a potential sticking point.

It looks nice, but I'm curious as to how it will be implemented.

EDIT:: apparently they're not the first or only people to use this and have been very evasive regarding questions on the topic.

So instead of modeling the props themselves, they can just laser scan them? That's pretty cool.
I used to do Maya and it was a bother to elongate and protrude all the polygonal surfaces to make them as realistic as possible.
And back then, even rendering a couple of polygons took up a lot of my computer resources. If we used atoms back then, my computer would have not been able to render even a single prop.

Technology is advancing really quickly nowadays. I heard that it went from double every year to double every 6 months?

I can't wait to see this be implemented into games.
