Personally, I like Intel but I know tons of people that like AMD since it's cheaper.

AMD = a budget proccessor with high ends that are very good bang for the buck,

If you have money to throw away, you should opt for a high end i7 processor from intel.

Intel is "Better" but AMD is more "Cost Effective"
Your Poll is just skewed because you said better, and not some other adjective.

If I was a millionaire, I would happily buy an intel i7, but I'm not, so I stick with AMD if I ever build a PC

http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-09-...x-guiness.html at the moments AMD do have the Guiness records for the fastest CPU. Also AMD accepted that costumer use Overlock without loosing guarentee ( great for gamer).

Intel. The architecture is far superior to AMD.

Lol they can't tell if you've overclocked your chip anyway. By the way, that chip they got the world record speed with was using liquid helium to keep it cool enough for those clocks if I remember correctly. Not only that but they turned off all but one core and did a bunch of other things just to get it that high. It basically means nothing for performance. You can get some of the old Intel Celeron processors up to like 7.5GHz if you know what you're doing... doesn't mean they beat out current chips even at lower clock speeds.

Intel is currently the best. Anyone who says differently is lying to themselves. Everyone seems to think that you have to compare Intel's prices with AMDs and they go about it completely ass backwards. They compare AMD's budget processors to Intel's high end processors. I don't know if anyone realized this but they also make mid-ranged products too. The Intel Core i3 2100 beats out every AMD processor in the same price range (Phenom II X4 955 for example) on the majority of benchmarks, including games. Fact is the architecture is just better.

Saying something is the fastest CPU based on its clock speed doesn't make any sense. Processors have been in the same clock speed range for the past 10 years

I've never used an AMD processor so I can't really say anything but I always chose intel over AMD.

meh the problem with intel that you have to buy a cpu at 350. Otherwise, you buy AMD

Did you even read what I said? You literally just became the stereotype I described in my post.

Intel makes mid ranged products too.

Intel Core i3 2100
AMD Phenom II X4 955

Two similarly priced processors, except that the i3 2100 performs better in the majority of applications despite only being a dual core and not being clocked as high as its AMD counterpart. It does significantly better in gaming as well. Really the only places the AMD CPU beats it is in highly threaded applications (which most day-to-day programs aren't). You will only benefit from having the AMD processor if you like do a lot of video editing or a lot of Winrar archiving or something like that. That's really the only kinds of places the AMD shines. Not to mention Intel has more technologies available on its boards like SRT for example, which is amazing.

Point is, price/performance may be a tiny (almost insignificantly so) bit better on the AMD side of things but just because they make mostly high end processors doesn't mean they don't also have comparable prices in the mid ranged market, which really is all that AMD offers.. they have zero high end processors whatsoever, leaving not much to compare CPUs like the 990X to on the AMD side.
