Uploading high quality, cropped images to your thread.
Feedback is appreciated
I know there are several alternatives, this is my favourite method.
WHY?- Due to the increased number of Java driveby's, pictures are much more preferred than direct links.
- Buyers much prefer to scroll through decent, cropped pictures than to have to zoom in to a low quality full screen picture - fact.
- Pictures are by far more attractive than links. (It's also better to view all the pictures at once to get the overall view of the product/account, etc. than click individual links).
WHO?- This guide is suitable for Windows' users only
- Follow these steps as closely as possible for other OS', note some applications may have to be downloaded or may have different names.
If you have Windows Vista or newer, you may have the "Snipping Tool" pre-installed. Try to run a search for this program.
Don't have this application? Skip ahead to "Step 1 - Print screening"
Have this application? Great! you do not need to know how to print screen, follow the instructions below.
Simply click the program and it should run automatically.
Click and drag the area of the screen you wish to "snip".
After this, you are able to edit your image with the simple tools provided (these are pretty self explanatory)
Now File > Save As or CTRL+S your image, *make sure to save in the format .png to ensure high quality*
Now skip to: "Step 3 - Uploading."
Step 1 - Print screening.
Your print screen button should be on the top right of your keyboard and look similar to this:
Note: if your print screen function shares a button with another function you may need to press "Fn" (on the bottom left of the keyboard) along with it, this is usually the case for laptops.
Simply press this button, or your equivalent, and that's your image saved as though you have "Copied" your screen are now ready to paste.
Step 2 - Cropping.
Now open MS Paint or a similar program and hold down Ctrl (bottom left and bottom right) and then press V.
Your screen should now be in paint. Click and drag the picture until you can clearly see the area you want to cut out and keep.
For me, it's the icons at the bottom.
Then click the "Select"/"Crop" tool on the toolbar.
Vista
Windows 7
Drag over the area you want to keep. It should now have a dotted blue line around it.
Now, right click and "Cut" this dotted area.
Your paint file should now have a white square where the area you want to keep was.
Now hold Ctrl as before, only now press N. Then click "Don't Save".
You now have a blank paint document. Hold Ctrl and press V as before.
Your selected area is now on its own.
File > Save as or Ctrl+S your file and *make sure to save as .png to ensure high quality*
Step 3 - Uploading.
Go to www.Imgur.com & click this icon. (Alternative sites at the bottom of this guide)
Then browse your files for the picture and then click this icon.
Then right click your image after it's uploaded and click this option (or similar).
And you should have a link on it's own:
Copy & paste this link including the img tags on your post like so:
Your images should now come up in your post, good luck.
Additional tips:
Try not to make your images too big, they may not load quickly and buyers may get impatient.
Make sure to save your images somewhere you can find them; relevant, labelled folders are suggested.

Good guide, I hope it will improve the average quality of pictures. I personally can't stand low-quality .jpg uncutted pictures, but you see those around a lot!

Basic knowledge for most of us. Either way, it's still helpful for new people. Good job in your effort.

Yeah, it's basic knowledge but you'd be surprised how many people ask me how to do this, it's easier to link this thread to them than explain

Re: Uploading high quality, cropped images to your thread.
I found this guide very in-depth and user friendly. I already knew how to upload pictures, but I always thought you only really use .png for transparent images, but now I know it makes them more high quality.

This is very good, even though I already know these... I'm sure it will help a lot of others on Sythe.

Re: Uploading high quality, cropped images to your thread.
Love the snipping tool, right?
You could list some other image hosting websites so people are free to choose what works best for them.
Personally I use imageshack.
