GFX Section Renovation
Quote:
I have recently started to look around the GFX help sub-forum as I'm trying to improve my skills... or rather I have none, hehe. It seems like many of the stickies regarding resources and tutorials in the GFX help sub-forum are outdated.
For example, many of the resource links listed in Sexual's sticky redirect to random search sites/tell you that the domain has expired.
Another example is this thread by TDD. Much of that resource list was just copied from Sexual's thread. In addition to that, some of his quotes are just from another sticky (Rules of Photography).
Basically, what I'm trying to say that all of the stickies have the same content in the forum, and much of that content is outdated.
My suggestion is to delete the resource stickies in that section (except for the photography one) and to create a new sticky inviting users to post the resources they use. After you've collected a nice amount of resource links, just compile them into the original post and lock the thread (or keep it open and let people keep contributing).
Please consider my suggestion and help out sythe.org's GFX community.
Thanks for reading.

I'd like to add more to the quote above. I've looked into some other parts of the GFX section which DEFINITELY need some attention.
Let's start with the most popular sub-forum, GFX Sales & Giveaways. In this section, I feel that:
- Sticky How not to get scammed when selling graphics: Watermarks should be locked to prevent more spam.
- Sticky Ripping and consequences should be updated. We should make this rule clearer for the GFX community so we don't make any mistakes that could cost us a ban from the GFX forum. OR READ BELOW!
- Perhaps a new sticky should be made titled "GFX Sales Rules" with Ripping and consequences deleted. In the new sticky, we could get some definite rules of what we're allowed to use/sell. These rules should be known to all, I feel like many of them are hidden.
Next sub-forum: General GFX Talk
- This sub-forum is cluttered with threads that belong in GFX Help, Tutorials and Advice/ GFX Showcase (threads like these: x, x, x, x and several more)
- I feel like this sub-forum should be merged with GFX Help, Tutorials and Advice
Third sub-forum: GFX Help, Tutorials and Advice
- This is covered in the quote at the top! Please read up.
Finally, GFX Showcase
- T R 1 B A L's artist thread should be updated (I personally think Emperor_Nero should be added), many of the people on that thread are banned/inactive.
- I feel like Graphics Moderators should be posting here more to help out sythe.org's GFX community.
What is a GFX moderator's responsibility?
I feel like the responsibility of a GFX moderator consists of:
- Keeping the section clean
- Answering spam reports for their section
- Critiquing/helping people out in the GFX Showcase/GFX Help sub-forums
- Making tutorials for various kinds of GFX
- Actively displaying their work and perhaps posting some .psd's
- Talking about OTHER programs such as GIMP
In my opinion, the bolded text really needs improvement. All in all, I just want change for the GFX section.

Support this 100%. With these changes it could help bring many people into the GFX creating world. It would also significantly help the activity in these sections.
Also I haven't seen any updates in that section lately, and from what superman has listed, changes could be very beneficial.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
Thanks for the mention; that makes me feel that my critique is appreciated at least by some.
I agree with every point made here, and I personally believe that the section is in need of new mods. I love Alt and all, but it seems as if the section has just tumbled further down hill than it already was. I hate to speak ill of anyone but I think a lot of it rests on Kina's shoulders as a mod - I have always said that I didn't think he was ready for modship.
I believe the rules and stickies need so much work, most haven't been updated or changed in about a year or so. A lot changes in the graphics community in a year. I would like to see the Graphics talk and the Graphics tutorials merged into a single forum because they are pretty much the same forum.
I would be happy to help anyone update the section because I do a lot of graphics and I love Sythe and want to see the community grow more. I'd really like to see a revision to the selling rules to prevent something like the latest fiasco with Chinesekid. I think these changes are an absolute must for the section to continue to grow.

Thanks alot for these suggestions, I'll keep these in mind, for sure.
I'll link this to Alteranz to see what he thinks about this.

Yes, there is alot of work to be done, and yes, it is a heavy weight on my shoulders and my life is a struggle at the moment, but I am doing whatever I can to improve the section, regardless.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
Support, pretty much what x339 said. Updating the stickies and merging the General GFX Talk with the GFX Help section are the main thing I've noticed. Adding more tutorials would help with people who are interested in learning more about making their own graphics.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
i think it's a great idea, i myself went into that section a bit and i found it quite confusing. I support the idea of giving a new structure to this forum, it will maybe bring more GFX artists and bring some interesting content in the community

Re: GFX Section Renovation
Support, stickies need to be revised and there needs to be clarification/stickies about the ripping rule.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
I agree with this, maybe you can even implement a sticky where it lists experienced gfx artists newer people can pm for help.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
The entire notion of graphics on Sythe.org has long been redundant. The site's leaders should not be focusing on ''renovating'' something that has been dead for such a great deal of time; instead, they should focus on stimulating growth and further expansion in areas that this site's existence is contingent on - specifically gaming & the market.

I haven't been interested in GFX long enough to view the GFX section for the past year, however, I don't think it's dead right now:

Also, I don't believe we should even consider scrapping the section as a whole, because we have plenty of users interested in the works of GFX.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
I must apologise to all for my lack of support as a Graphics Moderator, as when I asked to return I intended to put all my effort into it - but I was actually only looking to return about now, and I was promoted early (a month or so before University finished, which I needed to get out of the way first). All of my assignments have tied up for the year, and I'm free running for about four months, so expect me to get things in full swing.
I'll be beginning an overhaul of some of the more major sections, and also seeing if it can be improved structurally in any way within the next week - and I'll definitely take your suggestions and try and put them in motion
I also intend to get a lot more active in the showcase section, and also start making works of my own again!

Re: GFX Section Renovation
Completely agree that the section needs more attention, which is is inclusive of your structural reform suggestion and the sticky updates. It was really a shame Spraynwipe's tenure as Graphics mod had to end so early because I could see good things ahead for the GFX section with his leadership. I think what we really need is someone who can lead that section with enthusiasm and just wants to improve it for community.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
These sections like GFX, Chit chat, Spam, etc. They're really useful. A lot of traffic to an average site just because chit chat, etc. I know for a fact there's a nice population on Sythe that doesn't play runescape or use the Market section, but they're still here and active.

Re: GFX Section Renovation
I think that this section definitely needs renovating, but I think if it's done right then you won't actually take user traffic from other parts of the site but rather gain MORE users through this section that will travel to other sythe sections. There you will stimulate more.
