What is a good strategy game that could be played online or by yourself? Something like risk if possible. Been looking for a good one recently but haven't found anything that really sparks my interest.

A command and conquer game like warlord's battlecry is something else I'm looking for if anyone has any suggestions.

Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Command and Conquers (series), ground control 2.

Definitely Age of Empires 2, the best of war strategy. A couple things online, you could try War of Legends or 8realms which are made by Jagex.

D: Not really. AoE2 lacks so many thing in multiplayer that it doesn't even count in...

I would say warcraft3 and dota. And starcraft.

Age of Empires 1 + 2 are so awesome they don't need multiplayer. Didn't think much of 3 though.

I can also strongly recommend the Command & Conquer series, they have been a fantastic strategy series since 1995.

Some funorb games are kind of cool.

To be honest, Risk Online is amazing for strategic war games, if you like classics then it can be considered THE BEST strategic war game. AoE2 is good too as suggested. Then there's also Tactical Arena Online which is like enhanced medieval chess with monsters 'n shit.

LoL too, give that a try.

EDIT: OH and Populous: The Beginning with www.popre.net 's matchmaker program. It takes a bit of elbow grease to get this game working, but it's FUCKING AWESOME. Great great great online and single player game.

Age of Empires

Stratego was always a favorite of mine, seemed like i always had to plan out my attacks on my family :P

I love Rise of Nations, give it a try. Perhaps Command and Conquer Zero Hour?

Starcraft 2 ! Try it you will not regret it, It's best to play online 1v1 / 2v2 and it's ALOTs of players playing it(from noobs to grandmasters) so it's not hard to find someone in your skill level.

Iam personally a strategy game gore, and through out all of the games I played from AOE, Rise of nations.... etc Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 comes on top and will always my favorite.
Mind blowing Campaign on both games, multiplayers are top notch Ive seen, balanced races, units and easy controls. Just watch some of the games on youtube, a whole community of egame competitions. Rise of nations and age of empire doesn't come close to them, just try it.
