Re: Mixed Martial Arts
I do a bit of Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, and slowly picking up some Hapkido from one of my buddies whos a 2nd degree blackbelt it's pretty interesting and not really used in UFC due to alot of joint manipulation (Shit can fuck your body up TOO easily)

Re: Mixed Martial Arts
i actually wish i could do some MMA for my own health. However i feel bad going into a dojo with a ton of little kids and asking. "Can i sign up" >.>
However scarlet, i think joint manipulation is okay as long as its not on small easily breakable joints such as the fingers etc. That and, inst the lowest degree 3rd?

Re: Mixed Martial Arts
MMA is pretty cool I guess. I've watched a couple UFC fights on Spike from time to time. It isn't just as you said "guys humping each other on the ground", and I get why people would say that because a lot of the time they are actually just on the ground, one guy wrapped around the other, punching the other guy in the face or something while the guy getting punched in the face tries to escape. But, there is kicking and such involved in the sport. I'm a big fan of Taekwondo and Jujitsu, but I still enjoy watching this from time to time.

Its just the art of jujitsu. MMA is just the art of all martial arts including boxing. there are plenty of boxer who train the fighters in the UFC such as Freddy Roach. So i believe the art covers boxing too.

Re: Mixed Martial Arts
Can a brown belt in Taekwondo and Karate be able to participate in MMA, or is ju jitsu required?

Any specific martial art?
Alot of Hapkido is counter fighting / very defensive, its very good for practical self-defense and quickly incapacitating opponents, mainly consists of joint locks, judo throws and disarming weapons.
small joint manipulation and pressure points are illegal in UFC, which happen to be a somewhat large part of Hapkido.
Hey Guys is correct about the Jiu Jitsu and the ground, it mainly consists on lots and lots of groundwork. Most BJJ from my experience has been taught from the ground to standing up.

That hapkido reminds me of Krav Maga if you put it that way. both are for self defense. however both requires a lot of training before becoming even remotely effective. Catching a finger ro toe is not easy when the other guy is throwing some heavy muay thai kicks.
Silly Bandz, having a background in those two is great. However you will have to learn jiujutsu. Or when someone takes you down, you'll be in trouble since both TaeKwondo and Karate are standup based. Not to mention wrestling is also an important part of the Jiujutsu game too.

Jiu Jitsu isnt required, but you it would help so you arent completely useless on the ground, and so you dont get submitted pretty easy. If you dont feel comfortable on the ground, it would be helpful to learn some takedown defense too.

Re: Mixed Martial Arts
I've been absolutely in love with MMA since I began watching it over a year ago. I don't particularly like GSP but I'd rather he win than Koscheck. I forgot which event it was (123 I think) that BJ Penn destroyed Matt Hughes in a matter of seconds, but that was an exciting fight for me since I love both fighters but wanted to see BJ get a win. Now all I'm really wanting to see is Forrest Griffin fight again. It was a shame my friend bought tickets to when he was supposed to fight Lil Nog but he ended up getting hurt.

Same here man. I don't know who will win. I haven't seen Rich fight too much so I can't really compare, not to mention Forrest hasn't fought in a while.

Rich Franklin knocked out Chuck Lidell at UFC 115.
I live right near his hometown in Cincy, so I like him a lot too. This is a real tough test for Forrest, and Im bettin godds are on Franklin. He is a real good fighter, they both have something in common though, they got knocked the fuck out by Anderson

Yea I saw that fight. Sucked that I wanted both fighters to win and Chuck ended up having to stay out of the UFC. I'm thinking Forrest will most likely lose but if he wins it'll be a big win for him.
