Many of you people out there may not consider badminton a sport, I know this as the majority of my friends that are European do not consider badminton a sport, every time I mention it they start to ridicule me, and the sport.

What are your opinions on this sport?

Have you ever played, whether as recreation or competition?

Here are some facts about badminton:

-It is the worlds fastest racket sport. The current on court smash (during a match) record lies with the Indonesian player "Taufik Hidayat" at 305 km/ph, The fastest off court smash (not playing/not under pressure) is by the Malaysian player "Tan Boon Heong" resting at 421 km/ph

-A badminton player can cover more than 2 km in just one match.

-Once known as battledore and shuttlecock, the game as we know it today took its name from Badminton House in Gloucestershire, England home of the Duke of Beaufort.

-over 147 countries are active in the sport.

I play competitively for my school (its really just me and a friend playing for shits and gigs). I always feel slightly out of place though.. usually me and my friend are the only non-asians in the badminton hall.. seems like it anyways.

We have to play it in gym for 3 weeks, So I've played it for over 2 and a half months, I find it fun(Mainly because its just gym and no ones tries).

in PE class they amde us play it for 2 weeks but out teacher cut the unit down to a few days from lack of interest :P then we switched to tennis

i actually really like playing badminton i think badminton made me a better basektball player because in badminton you have to be quick, it translated very nicely
