Overpopulation?
Simple question - Do you think the world will ever be overpopulated?
Overpopulation is defined as:
Quote:
|
the condition of having apopulation so dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash
|
"overpopulation." Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary. Merriam-Webster, Inc. 14 Nov. 2009. <Dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/overpopulation>
^^^^
That is one of the many definitions for this term but my personal is: The condition in which the resources cannot support the population.
For my role I will play the devil's advocate.

Re: Overpopulation?
There will never be overpopulation as long as we're living. There's no other way to put it.

Re: Overpopulation?
To be honest we already overpopulated im pretty sure so they are going to ration food so only families with 2 kids or less can get food the rest will starve, they already doing that in china where you cant have more than 2 kids if my knowledge is correct. I read a book where the illegal child will get killed and the parents couldnt do anything about it. they where marked so people will know that they are the illegeal child which is a fucked up way to live where society tells you how many kids you can have and if they are diffrent race they will be killed or not fed. i think america should start putting food away because when the world gets over populated further we will have enough food rather than trying to find ways to get it.
plain and simple its to populated we need to cut back on alot of things. you feel me roy? i love u hunny

Based on the definition of over population, then yes we already are.
You can use the Rain Forest as an example of environmental deterioration.
Most parts of Africa as an example of lacking quality of life.
African genocides as an example of populations crashing.
So, based off that definition, then yes.

Re: Overpopulation?
The human population in just the last decade has risen dramitically and will continue to do so. It will, if it isnt already, be a problem. Tho millions of people will die due to global warming so its all good.

What do you mean by "we're"? The human race?

Well the human population grew but our technology to better harvest resources have also increased.
What do you mean by the second part of your response? Are you trying to relate global warming with overpopulation?

Re: Overpopulation?
I doubt overpopulation will cause humans to run out of food; people largely underestimate how much fertile land goes unused. I think that we'll kill ourselves with a supervirus long before that could happen.

Re: Overpopulation?
We really should start limiting the amount of children people can have, with strict punishments for those who disobey.
The population needs to die out a bit.
It won't be long before earth reaches saturation point at the current rate.

Re: Overpopulation?
No, I don't think we're gonna get OVERPOPULATED.
But like, the population distributition will be fucked.
Cause there wouldn't be enough space for other people to live in.
It's gonna be very crowded. Just look at china, see the traffic? :P

Wrong, China gives extra benifits to families with 2 kids. Preferably a male and a female.
Is the world overpopulated? No. If the world was to be overpopulated, it would be presently obviously.

Re: Overpopulation?
no
price mechanism regulates population. as resources grow more scarce cost of living goes up, making people reproduce less. (absent bizarre government welfare incentives)

Re: Overpopulation?
The population should level off at around 10 billion. No need to panic :P. Europe already has a negative growth rate, lmao.

Those are more arguments in favor of overpopulation.

Re: Overpopulation?
We're already facing difficulties with overpopulation; take China for an example.
However, we will not run out of sustanance for life. Many people think long before we are overpopulated to the point of extinction we will have already whiped ourselves out due to a super virus. (Anti-biotics creating bacteria genetically immune to everything)

Re: Overpopulation?
Some areas of the world are already being overpopulated such as parts of Asia and Africa. North America is not over populated, but we are consuming a ridiculous ammount of resources. If we stopped being si greedy, and everyone else stopped having so many babied, I don't see us becoming overpopulated.

Overpopulation = Competition
Competition = Survival of the fittest
Survival of the fittest = Natural Selection
Natural Selection = Evolution

But is the assumption regarding one country going to say about the character of others?

Re: Overpopulation?
Meh, the fundamental question is a little off for me.
Overpopulation has no clear indicators - it's like asking, at what time will the sky go dark? You could argue at sunset, or at night time, or never at all, because the stars and moon light the earth...
My personal opinion is that the quantity of human beings is less relevant than the particular actions they perform. That is, the earth has enough food, water, space for everyone for quite some time but it doesn't mean that war and pollution won't decrease the living standards of one life.
