What IS Truth?
Simple and Straight forward enough, tell me what you think truth is.
Some Things To Consider - Who is Right and who is Wrong?
- Truth is in the eyes of the beholder?
- Is Truth human kind trying to understand something they cannot?
- Can the Truth be a Lie?
Let me know what you think, im interested.
EDIT: Ill put in some of my reasoning on the subject, I myself think that Truth is different to everyone, but isnt that makes it a lie? Its what you yourself THINK it should be but in reality it isnt at all. That "thing" you are trying to understanding never had a name was not created with a name, it is what we humans do by naming things, then with that saying this is the truth or "fact" you could say, there have been many debates on this theory but im purely interested in what the community thinks.
- Let the debate begin

Re: What IS Truth?
The truth is always the truth, however peoples views on truths are not always correct.
A truth is that 1 + 1 = 2, that is fact. if you asked someone and they honestly thought it equaled 15, they are not lieing, they are just wrong.

Re: What IS Truth?
I don't understand what you're saying. Truth is objective, it isn't something that is different to different people.

Re: What IS Truth?
It depends the context. In terms of a factual occurrence, truth is what actually occurred and not a deviation of the fact. I think the concept that you are attempting to put forth is that of right and wrong.

One person's truth is different than another's. There isn't one correct truth.

One person's interpretation of truth differs from another person's. Truth is universal.

Truth is not universal. Everyone forms their own truths about the world. Such as:
Hitler is a good person.
You can not have one universal correct truth.

Eh. I'm bad with defining things... But.
Truth is a personal matter. Each person sees it differently. It is what they consider true(lol) / right / correct / what they believe.

Damn. You saw through my crappy argument just for arguments sake. Lol.
The truth behind that statement would be basically "Blah believes this". Nothing else really. >_>.

I have to disagree on that, truth is a concept that is different from people to people, truth is in the eyes of the beholder, that doesnt mean that he/she is necessarily right in a sense, but truth is what you understand something to be, whether it is universally accepted or singularly accepted by just you

Re: What IS Truth?
Ill give another example. Say you are shown the colour, lets say red. You automatically say in your head that the colour you see is indeed red, but is that the real truth of the colour you are seeing? When the Earth was created (wont get into how, thats a totally different scenario) was that colour called red? who was the one who gave a name for this, and if they did how did THEY know that what they named was the truth of what they named. What im saying is, is the truth something you are told, so you believe them?

Alright then, I'd agree with you if that was what "truth" usually means.

The color we know as red corresponds to a specific wavelength of visible light. That is what red is.

Agreed, however you may be skipping my point, who was the man who called these wavelengths "Red" and if he did, how does one know that is what it really is? What makes him right? Its a name, an attempt to understand what it really is.

"Red" is simply a word describing a wavelength of electromagnetic radiation. It doesn't matter what you call it. It has a wavelength of roughly 630-740nm and a frequency of roughly 480-405 THz.
The word red is a description of that wavelength. No matter what you name it, the color will still be the same.

You people are making his way too complicating.
Just don't question these things anymore please.
Truth = It's true.
Let's stop there.

Exactly, its a word. So this word is the truth? This name we place it, is that the indefinite truth?
Again I come back to my recent thesis. Who was the man to name this. And what makes this mans presumptions right to call this wavelength "Red?"

A description you say, so a basis we humans place on object to try and gain an understanding of? What was it called before that?

And again I must agree with your logic as it coincides with mine! No matter what the name is it will be the same, unknown, but sought to be understood.

It is not a question of whether the word is truth or not. The word has no meaning outside communication. It seems to me that you aren't questioning truth, but simply semantics.

Oh but yes it is! How is that word we describe something as the truth? If the word is not the truth would that not also show us the invalidity of what it is describing?

Indeed I am questioning the truth of the object, and "words" we place on the object that lets us think that it constitutes as truth of what it really is

How is truth? What makes it truth?
A fact is two planes hit both of the twin towers, John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans, these are facts.
1 + 1 = 2 is simply what someone has said and we've gone by for generations.
