Re: Voluntary human extinction
Who determines who becomes extinct?
If it's voluntary and one person decides to get rid of themselves.. Humans still aren't extinct. Explain this further

Re: Voluntary human extinction
It usually refers to people not reproducing.
I say no, the more people you have the greater the division of labor and thus prosperity.

I'm referring to total extinction, not reduced breeding.

Re: Voluntary human extinction
Then how could it possibly be voluntary? %100 of the world's population would have to agree to that.

That isn't part of the thread. I'll restate the question.
"Would voluntary human extinction be ultimately beneficial?"

Animals have emotions.

You implicitly stated that human labor division is beneficial, which wouldn't exist without humans.

Re: Voluntary human extinction
I have no clue. Would the next smartest species take over and become the superior race of the planet? Would they eventually evolve into a super-being just as humans were and get greedy and destroy the planet taking place where we left off? No one knows.
These kinds of questions can't be answered with a logical answer.
I have to say no.

Re: Voluntary human extinction
It would be catastrophic. Can you imagine the consequences if nuclear plants, oil reservoirs, and the like weren't maintained?

I saw a documentary on this, it would take a long time for the world to recover.

I hardly consider us "super-beings". Go into a crowded area and look around you, I doubt you will see anyone worthy of being called a "super-being".
Anyway, back to the topic. Considering humans are the one destroying the planet we were given, I do believe that extinction would be beneficial. Yes, with no humans around, the things we built and maintained would fall into disrepair and eventually crumble and fall apart completely, but the area this occurred would more than likely recover. The animals would take care of themselves and the environment would recover slowly.
I got distracted and lost my train of thought, sorry

I don't think he means physical super-beings, as there's a lot of animals that would rip apart humans in a fist fight. It's a question of technology.

I agree, compared to animals, we are the dominant race. With technology we further create the gap between beast and man
