Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
Should they?
Yes or No?
For me I want a genetically engineered baby. I want my baby to have the best of everything good. I want my child to be the best. I think for those who have the money should be allowed to Genetically engineer their baby

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
If we could have better babies, without them coming out mutated or any health problems, I don't see a reason why not.

The problem of no genetic variability could arise.
This itself could lead to worse mutations. Two people with the same genetics mate and you end up with a very twisted product.

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
No. Judging by the typical human's perspective, they will take advantage of this sooner or later and try to rise in power.

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
No, at least not yet. I don't think we should be experimenting with improved humans until we have a better understanding of genetics than we do now.
Plus, it would upset all kinds of hippies who would stop it before any real results are achieved. sigh.

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
This is quite stupid. If you had a child, You would want it to be YOUR child. Not some genetically engineered baby. Your baby is unique. A genetically engineered baby is practically a robot.

You're right, it "could" happen. Too bad scientists would see this generations before it happens and take action.

Well obviously, nobody said to do it right now. Theres not a doctor in the US who would perform something like this. However at some point we have to attempt it.

Oh yeah, I see your point so when you baby has Down Syndrome which could have been easily cured, you can still be happy due to the fact that its your baby and not a robot.
Like seriously, what you said is like saying that if someone breaks their leg, we should leave them like that because if we fix it they'll turn into a robot.
Guys, I don't think you all see the point of this, you'll see babies with Down syndrome. You'll see babies with easily preventable genetic disorders; and with this we will be able to fix these diseases.

An adopted baby is still your child, even though it may not have the same genetics.

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
I really don't think it should be allowed as when it comes to sports or something, they're enhanced. It might not be fair to some people.

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
I think yes within reason. Let people choose their looks, but not talents. The world of art, music, sports and any form of talent based skill will be ripped to shreds is any parent can make their kid a child prodigy. So while I think that they should allow genetically engineered babies, they shouldn't allow a large pull of natural talent.

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
I think I misunderstood, I thought by Genetically Enhancing the child meant doing it for the benefit of a family member and not the child's well being. Which in that case it's still totally wrong in my opinion, I find no need to interfere with a natural process. You may be able to change the way they look, but you can't change their personality which can limit the capabilities they might have had to excell in things they would enjoy, not what you would want them to enjoy.

A good point, the only way I would only want my childs DNA to be mutated in the way that it won't be retarded or have a deformity.

Re: Should Genetically engineered babies be allowed?
If it is for stopping mutations such as autism and retared babies then yes but if it just for making your kid better then you friends then that is terrible. Life should be natural

Why? Someone will always be better than someone else.
It could eventually, however, consolidate professional sports teams into families of the fiscally elite.

The sports part is what I was aiming at. If a doctor/scientist can fuse genes to make a baby more healthy taller and the chance to become stronger that would be over dose. people will be doing that just that there kid can become the next lebron

I still fail to see the problem. If a man is determined to have a tall son for basketball, it's better for him to marry someone he'll cherish and genetically alter the child rather than impregnate a tall woman in hopes of having a sports star.
