Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
Do we really want prohibition all over again? If alcohol was made illegal all thats going to happen is people are going to drink alcohol and buy it from dealers rather than stores. Just look at drugs.

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
Alcohol is, in my humble opinion, the most dangerous drug in the world. You will find numerous information supporting this thesis, though I don't care to get into that right now, most of it is obvious. Alcohol should be illegal. Millions die as a direct result of consumption of alcohol, yet it remains the legal recreational drug of choice all over the world. There are many drugs that are safer and have beneficial uses. It amazes me that it has taken this long for Americans to even start to see that marijuana for example should be legal, and for people to start pushing for this. There are patients in states that have no medical marijuana that are turned into criminals, forced to turn to the black market for their medicine, have to take harmful prescription drugs in its place, etc. Alcohol is what it is, a depressant. I would much prefer cocaine, psyilocybin mushrooms, lysergic acid diethylmide; any drug for that matter to be the legal recreational drug of choice. Our people would stop being killed by the legal drug we choose to keep available even though it is clearly harmful. People don't look at alcohol like the drug it is. And people look at other illegal substances negatively because what they hear is what they believe. You grow up being taught drugs are bad. Noone ever grows up understand that alcohol is a drug, a dangerous drug at that. We are spending tax paying money on keeping pot smokers in jail, etc. Its fucking bullshit. Wake up people, Alcohol kills, alcohol is a dangerous drug. Id rather see many illegal narcotics be taxed and regulated than see alcohol remain legal.

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
It can be taxed and has a proper age limit in my country , in my opinion. Why would it need to be illegal in the U.S. ? It says nothing in our constitution about telling anybody how to live their lives.

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
There are too many people nowadays that consume alcohol on a regular basis to be able to fight the temptations. If alcohol was illegal, much like marijuana, people would just go "underground" to find their desires. It would just end up getting more people in unnecessary trouble for going the extra mile. Stricter alcohol regulations might be a better solution.

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
And I actually backtrack. Alcohol should remain legal but all other illegal drugs should be made legal. And people should stop being so fucking stupid and irresponsible and allowing their piers to do so aswell. Alcohol is legal because it makes us wastes of life. The government doesn't want us to explore our brains with more creative substances, although they are far safer.

Yep, and yet with the continuing prohibition of cannabis in many countries we are doing the same thing. The only reason cannabis was banned compared to alcohol is its easier to make your own at home and we cant have people making their own medicines

in this day and age it is the sad truth, our days of a "free world" and "free speech" are over, Now provided our government can make cash off it, regardless of health issues they will support it to the end (alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals)

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
I think it should, personally, because it's so much worse for you then alcohol, it causes so many deaths, yearly, if not daily, and honestly, what can alchohol do for you, that marijuana cant?

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
No, in fact the drinking age should be lowered. Alcoholism has been proven to be genetically based, so people should drink accordingly. America isn't a communist country (yet), and until then there will be consumption and sales of alcoholic beverages, end of story.

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
First of all, if alcohol drinks were invented today, they would not be made legal. Alcohol should in theory be banned, but it is obvious that it would not be possible anymore.
If alcohol was to be banned, crime would florish not only in the USA, but around the world. Smugglers would find a way to bring alcohol to the circulation.
If it was banned, if would be like bringing another heroine to the world. Only more people would use it, and would therefore result in a major crime wave.
So my answer to the question is that alcohol should be illegal, but it cannot be made so.

Re: Should alcohol be illegal?
Alcohol is a choice for people now and should remain so. That's part of a free community, the freedom of Goods.
Other than mere commercial value, alcohol does bring about bonding among men. Of course there are always the flip-side of the story; men gets drunk then drive and hurt someone else, etc.
Let the people choose. Those mature enough should know their drinking limits and not cause harm to others through inducing alcohol.

Stating alcohol illegal doesn't stop people from drinking.
