I'm trying to stop scammers - and Mods are stopping me.

Ok - This Guy (EXODUSS) Was Selling Half Wine, Disk of Returning, and a Blue Partyhat. Check here : http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=877458

He was also offering ( On another thread, for people to buy 15m Worth of implings from him for $22.5) Check here : http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=878436

I added his Msn in an interested to buy his Half Wine.

Generally, Half wines range between $600 - $1000.

When I added him on Msn - I offered him 400$ for his half wine - and he automatically accepted my offer. This made me feel a bit suspicious, as they're worth way more.

Then I asked him to verify the Half wine in-game with me, and he said 'I'm one of the most famous players on Runescape, therefore I do not want my name exposed'

So I said 'Okay' - I posted on his Half wine thread Saying I'll make an offer, once a mod has verified these items ingame.

Why are these posts of mine being removed? I am only stating that I'm suspicious of the seller - and others should be too.

Later on he told me on Msn 'Benwise has verified my items ingame'

So on the thread I requested 'Benwise please post a picture of you verifying the items ingame'

EXODUSS also posted 'thanks benwise for clearing up my thread'

So then I get infracted for asking a mod to verify the items? Lol? I wanna buy the wine, but i'm just trading cautiously, and be infracted for it.

Now if I got scammed, and I made a rant about it, everyone would say 'you shoulda been more cautious'

now that i am cautious, i'm having my posts removed, and being infracted.

Can only assume he wouldn't have if he had saw mine and some others suspicious posts about him.

 

Moderators on this forum really have to start looking at the bigger picture and think about exactly WHY they are infringing people, not just automated giving infractions when you see something that doesn't break the rules.

what seems to have happened here is poor judgement, Maybe it cant be avoided every once and a while.

 

I know you weren't accusing him of scamming, but the reason we have that rule in place is to prevent people from making false claims about a user because of competition, personal revenge, etc...

 

All I asked for is a mod to verify the items ingame so I can be sure he's got the items - and i get infracted?

 

What has that rule to do with him then?

I know you aren't posting child porn, but the reason we have that rule in place is to keep people from posting child porn because of competition, their ridiculous defending of frivolous principles, wanting to publicly outwit them, et cetera...

 

Telling others to be careful, he's suspicious, etc... is pretty much accusing him.

 

Doesnt mean you have to infract him for....Asking a Mod to post pictures of the verified items...on the thread...if he was the buyer...I want verified pictuers to if i am buying something... in game...Anyways dont users on sythe have to have Pictures of their stuff on their threads....anyways?

 

No it is not.
If you say "It's suspicious to post high price items for sale without confirmation bro'" it isn't accusing
If you say "You people should be careful unless he shows items in game or has a mod verify" it isn't accusing
If you say "Just a reminder: This item hasn't been confirmed in-game" it isn't accusing
Saying "THIS GUY IS SUSPICIOUS BRO'S U SHUDZ NOTZ TRADEZ WITZ HIMZ..PROB SCAMZ AND GOES TO NEXT FORUM U KNO GUYZ... JUST A TIP BRO'Z CHILL OUT...XOXO LOVERGIRL" it's accusing and quite frankly... way to much caps lock.

 

I got an infraction for asking a mod to verify - if i'm suspicious, then i should be able to do that without being infracted, and that's not accusing at all.

Anyone who has the items would say 'Ok' and get them verified asap.

Sometimes you need to look more into it, and use common sense rather than just proof.

 

I dont think anyone should get infracted to verify that a Mod had got the sellers items....Verified in game..Or the mod could post on the thread "Items are Verified" so the buyer knows that the seller isnt bluffing.

 

If someone posts 'add a picture' is that accusing?

tbh a picture can easily be faked via photoshop / getting it off the net / a friend taking it for you.

asking for mod verification is much safer , and it does not means your accusing.

if you see any account in this site with 2B+ you will have 10+ people say, ask a mod to verify - is that accusing? did they all get infractions? no

 

Somebody needs to get off the power trip.

If the accused honestly believes this deserves an infraction, they are not ready to handle the responsibility as moderator.

 

Good to see the more Down-to-earth Mods (Tyro etc) cleaning up fellow Mod's mistakes.

 

That's really unfortunate, hopefully the person that was scammed recovered their money because they must have payed $400+ for it. I've had my share of harmless posts removed too.

 

el oh el! and when i was talking to this person on msn, also being suspicious, and him/her refusing to take any other payment other than mailing money, which has no safety net whatsoever, i was accused of being the scammer (by potentially a whole group of mods / admins from this site that were all on tinychat, or so he/she told me).yea gl maybe mods will stop defending people with 1 vouch now. people can have a friend irl post them a vouch.. a single vouch means not a thing.

 

If you look at it this way, maybe the mod was in a hurry with the spam report and accidentally gave you an infraction?

I'm just trying to give both sides of it.

Even though your infraction was un-warranted and mod's should apologize and try not do it again.

Just Pm them and most of the time they will give you a reason / reverse it.

 

Mods, please apply the rule: guilty until proven innocent some MORE here.

Ban obvious scammers, because this forum if full of them.

 

Mods: Don't abuse your powers, Woofurry got banned for blocking Pen, he got Iped actually, I got banned from R2,( unbanned after disptue) for selling gold without the method being verified by him.

Now, let's use more common sense rather than going thru legal books

 

Trades of that caliber shouldn't be allowed to take place without confirmation by a trusted source IMO.
