Re-Do The Rules

Frankly, they aren't very neat, and should be presented in a much better manner. Every time someone adds something, changes something, amends something, etc, it gets more cluttered, and more difficult to understand. The layout doesn't really assist with really making them GRRRR. People who read them either get a brief concept, or have to re-read them to understand. Having clearer, very concise rules will not only make it easier for changes, but make it so you can say 'The Rules are clear, and very concise' in disputes ^.^.

So, I decided to go ahead and write a suggestive change. Enjoy.

My Change Suggestion:

The Sythe.Org Official Rules

Sythe.Org has a variety of Rules and Regulations each user must obey to ensure the security, and safety of theirs, and others' accounts. Any user found to be in violation of these rules may be subject to a disciplinary action.

Please note that the staff of Sythe.Org reserve the right to warn, infract, or ban for any unconscionable act. The following rules and associated punishments only apply when the Sythe.Org staff reasonably conclude that a user does not deserve a more severe form of punishment for whatever unconscionable act they may have been involved in.

How Sythe.Org Works

• Users will receive infractions for rule breaking actions.

• Any user who receives 5 infractions will receive a 14 day temporary ban.

• Any user who receives 7 infractions will receive a 31 day temporary ban.

• Infractions will expire after 31 days.

• Users who have had several temporary bans may receive a permanent ban.

• Users may be instantly banned for certain rules. These bans may vary in time.

Users Will Receive 1 Infraction for the Following

• Spamming

1. Posting short, unhelpful messages such as "cool", "nice account", etc.
2. Flooding a forum with replies for the sole purpose of increasing ones post count. Doing so in certain forums may result in a temporary, or permanent ban from using that forum.
3. Posting messages with little, or no relevance to the topic of the thread.
4. Incessant posting within a topic to keep it at the top of the forum's thread list. (Otherwise known as bumping). Such is allowed if the topic has not had activity for a while.

• False Accusations

1. Accusing someone of scamming without proof.
2. Accusing someone of scamming with text logs as your only proof. (They are not accepted.)

• Begging

1. Asking for free items, free accounts, and such.
2. Asking for a rank, or moderator status.

• Infraction Complaints

1. Asking about an infraction, or ban, anywhere except in the Dispute Forum.
2. Whining about an infraction, or ban, anywhere except in the Dispute Forum.
3. Requesting removal of an infraction, or ban, anywhere except in the Dispute Forum.

• Selling Free Products

1. Attempting to sell, or market, any item which is free, and easy to obtain. Selling the method of how to acquire the item, however, is permitted in the appropriate forums.

• Signature Violations

1. Having a signature over 350 pixels in height, or over 650 pixels in width. This includes all text, quotes, and pictures. Repeating violators may lose their signature privileges.

• Flaming

1. Excessive cursing, insults, and/or derogatory comments towards another user.

• Advertising MiddleMan Services

1. The posting of yours or another person's MiddleMan services outside of User Services, MiddleMan Application Forums, or signatures.

• Referral Links

1. Posting referral links to other sites, surveys, games, or anything similar outside of signatures.

Users Will Receive a 31 Day Ban for the Following
​

The following rules will merit a 31 Day Ban on your first offense only. Further offenses will result in a Permanent Ban from Sythe.Org.

• Warez

1. Posting direct downloads to Warez*.
2. Posting links to websites related to Warez*.
3. *Warez is seen as: Full Length Motion Pictures (Movies), Completed Seasons of a Television Show (1-2 Episodes are permitted), Shareware Programs, Copyrighted Content, Cracks, Serial Codes, and things of similar nature.

• Advertising

1. Postings that link, or advertise personal websites. (These are only allowed in personal signatures).
2. Advertising a business website, gold farming websites, and such is not allowed anywhere. However, you may purchase links by e-mailing [email protected].

• Pornographic Material

1. Posting or linking to: Pictures, Videos, Websites with Pornography, or anything like that is not permitted.
2. Risque material may be construed as pornography, as it is up to the staff of Sythe.Org to decide what they see as pornography, so it is wise to simply avoid posting such content.

• Plagiarism

1. Posting images, graphics, guides, content, or anything like such without express permission from the owner, and/or claiming it as your own. (A ban from the respective forum will result, as well as the 31 day ban).

Users Will be Banned Permanently for the Following
​

• Scamming

1. Taking items, accounts, or anything else from users without their express permission, and/or without fulfilling both ends of a deal.
2. Suspicious Behavior in regards to the first item in this list.
3. Impersonating other members.
4. Counter-Scamming.

• Password Cracking

1. Creating, helping to create, using, discussing, and/or distributing any form of cracking software.
2. Attempting to brute force, backdoor, or hack into a users account.

• Infected Files

1. Posting, or linking to, files which contain keyloggers, viruses, trojans, or anything similar.

• Account Sharing

1. Allowing other people to access your Sythe.Org account. Only the original account owner may ever access their created account.

• Ban Evasion

1. Creating a new account while another account of yours is banned.

• Being Hacked

1. If at any time your account is compromised, and the compromiser scams materials, you, as the account owner, are solely responsible for refunding those who were scammed by the hacker. After such is done, you will be considered for an unbanning.

These rules are subject to change at any time at the discretion of Sythe.Org. Users are expected to be aware of such changes on their own.

I sort of agree with some of your change suggestions, but I absolutely don't agree with the 31 day ban for some of the things.

Hm. I don't know if users should be allowed to request such a major change to the website, however. :3

 

31 day ban = 1 month ban, sir . All these rules are practically the same, just neatly laid out.

The rules have been the same since before I joined. There's just random crap added and it kills the layout/readability. The rules should be concise and easy to understand at all times.

 

My apologies Deac. I thought that posting porn was a perm ban, as well as Warez. I can't believe they aren't. :3

Yeah. I think the layout looks fantastic, and would make it much easier for new members to follow.

I like what you've done with them, much more presentable.
But I think advertising should be split up, like.

If I say "go to www.charlie.com" and see what i've done to it, that could be considered advertising, and that doesn't deserve a 31 day ban. But me posting:

That's up to the admins =/. Generally, that is considered advertising, because you're linking to a personal website. Sythe doesn't like others posting links in threads and such because he charges people for advertising... if you start posting links... well, he loses money =/.

I understand where you're coming from, and yes, it does make sense, but again... not up to me . I just added some content/re-worded/re-designed these... Changes to the actual rules aren't really in my suggestion.

The current rules aren't understandable for some users that don't speak/read English very well.

 

Steph's version is better imo.

 

I agree with deac on this. IMO it would look more attractive, more people would most likely follow them.

 

You should add in there that if at any time a moderator can deem an action to be against the rules and infract you. Or something like that.

 

You should include phishing in there. It is against the rules to talk, discuss, or participate in phishing yet it's not on the rules specifically.
