How to connect to irc and irc rules

This was made by me in my free time. Please sticky so people know how to get on IRC

The first thing you need to do is get an IRC client. You can go that by going to www.mirc.com/get.html and selecting your mirror (a mirror is where you live, and If it doesn't have where you live on there, just select somewhere close). If you are not allowed to download mirc or it is too confusing for you, you can go to a java based irc client at http://www.gotannex.com/irc. After you download it, extract it and open it. Other Windows clients available at http://www.valinor.sorcery.net/clients/platforms-windows.html.

Now this box should appear:

Fill in your name with whatever, your e-mail with your e-mail, your nickname with the nickname YOU want to use on IRC, and the alternative is the 2nd nickname YOU want to use on the IRC.
Now, push ok. You have to connect now:

in the box which the arrow is pointing to, type /server irc.sythe.org

Now, wait up to a minute, you should be connect. There will be a box that opens, you will need to do this:

in that box, type #sythe and then press enter. There you go, you are in the channel!

Basic Commands:
/join #channel :: Joins a channel of your choice
/nick :: it lets you be any nick unless it is taken
/ns register pass e-mail :: it lets you register your nickname
/ns identify pass :: It lets you logon to your registered nickname.

• NO spamming links (gay porn) or advertising <_< We get a lot of this
• NO being immature, you may talk, and goof off... But we wont tolerate immaturity.
• Respect the Op's, Half Op's, IrcOp's.
• Don't bitch for Op's/voice

• NO Ban Evading... If you get banned and you come back on ircatwork or some other alternate route, you will be g:lined indefinenetly (?sp)
• RUNESCAPE SHIT NOT ALLOWED IN #SYTHE
• Um don't be gay?
• THORPE not THROPE (prepare for kick, kick ban, shun, gline, kline, or zline if you do)

Yep i need help,

NickServ- Please try again with a more obscure password. Passwords should be at least five characters long, should not be something easily guessed (e.g. your real name or your nick), and cannot contain the space or tab characters.

-NickServ- Your nick isn't registered.

What do i do?

How do I register?

If you use the Java applet, you're on the wrong page! Go to out java name registering page now.

Replace the dark blue text with your own password/email address. The black text is the actual command, and must be spelt perfectly for it to work!

The command is:-

/msg nickserv register yourpassword your@emailaddress

See what NickServ says in reply, it should either say something like "your password is yourpassword, remember this for future use" or it might say you did not use the command correctly. if you did the command correctly, you now own that name.

Once you own a name, you MUST identify to NickServ as soon as you connect.

How do I identify?

The command is:-
/msg nickserv identify yourpassword

See what NickServ says in reply, it should either say "you are now recognised" or it might say you did not supply the correct password, if you typed it wrong. You must supply the correct password within around 60 seconds or it changes your name. NickServ will disconnect anyone that has 3 incorrect guesses for passwords.

If you use mIRC, you are strongly recomended to add the identify command to Perform (File > Options > IRC > Perform). Simply type the identify command with your password, and it'll happen automatically every time you log on to CentralChat.

If you cant download mIRC, go through this, just do the following:

Nickname: Your Name Here
Server: Your Server Here
Channel: Your Channel Here

this can be used to also access the sythe.org IRC channel.

 

When i first opened mIRC it says that i have a 30 day free trial and after that i need to register, by paying $20.

Do i really need to pay or can i just use it for free?

 

mIRC will just nag you if you haven't registered, but it will still work fine.

 

If you use this and you CAN use mirc, you will be kb'd... I hate people using web based clients... If your going to use a web based client at least use

www.gotannex.com/irc

Yea help when i try to register my nick it says i have an invalid e-mail adress? and if i dont put in the email address it tells me to put it in?!?! a lil help har?

thats just too bad that it doesn't send passcode, its pissing me off, i've registered like 30 times and still hasn't sent me passcode
