Is luring/scamming in RS against the law?

One of my friends lured someones partyhat here in australia and was wondering if it was against the law.

As for that, isnt scamming for virtual items against the law too? Cant we report to the police if someone scams you?

I doubt the police will take it seriously, If people are dumb enough to be lured then they deserve to lose their shit...

    It's not even Jagexs' rules.

It's not in the "spirit of the game" a.k.a you can do it but you're a dick.

Nope, luring is not against game rules. I've heard some slightly more ridiculous cases of people getting in lawsuits over scamming, but that is actually against the rules. There's no way that he could get in any legal trouble. Congratulations on the lure to your friend!

Depends on luring (legit lure, i.e luring pkers to multi or scamming lure).

If you do scamming luring/item scamming, usually nothing will happen to you. But if the person knows you, you might get into some trouble, as there are several court cases where people got send to juvy + hours.

In australia the police are strict but they'd probably think "WTF IS THIS SHIT KID LOSES MONEY IN A GAME BAHAHAHA" They won't give 2 shits, it's your own risk and I've lured bandos before they just have a mini rage and get over it

Honestly, I dont think Luring is against any law, its the dumb ppl who actually fall for such stuff.. Its their own greed, Best example would be the Clan Wars Lure. (not explaining here) Greed gets the better out of them. :|

Scamming, Some forms, yes probably against law, for example if you somehow hack into someones account(keylogging, phishing etc, or some other way that doesnt involve playing with the victims mind and getting the pass out of him ) Then taking all his goods etc, Thats illegal, But if u just trick them.. as in , let greed get the better of em, You're kinda doign something bad, but yet, dont think it can be termed illegal, after all, if they give you their goods themselves, they well.. Gave them. And no one can say its illegal because its kind of a gift by the victim.

THIS IS JUST AN OPINON I WANTED TO SHARE ON THIS TOPIC, MIGHT NOT LOOK AT THIS THREAD AGAIN. SO DONT FLAME :)

Is luring/scamming in RS against the law?

Do any of you really think that any member of the police force has the time to investigate a RuneScape item scam/account scamming?

Breaking News: No-one outside the RuneScape/internet community gives two shits about what happens inside it. The small, underfunded cyber branches of the police are too busy going after credit card fraudsters and internet-organised terror organisations (you know, stuff that actually matters) to give a single thought to virtual item scamming. Honestly, you'd think none of you have ever met gone outside..

Is luring/scamming in RS against the law?

I reported a $1k scam that happened to fraud/internet fraud. They really didn't give a shit as it was virtual items so really I'd say it's not against the law or they just don't care. Even if I had a shitload of proof including the guys address and pretty much everything. They just don't understand how virtual items can be worth anything, that's the problem. If virtual items had no real-life cash value, then it wouldn't really matter period. They got more important stuff to worry about as this happens very often.

Luring in real life is against the law I'd say. Like for example human traffickers lure people all the time into their dirty business. Still I'd say you'd be stupid to fall victim to a lure as I have countless of people try to lure me and everytime they fail. Just don't understand how people fall for that.
Luring in-game...how can that ever be illegal lol..

So no its not. Of course its wrong though and something should be done. At least keyloggers and phishers get punished though when caught. Scammers are there because people are stupid and don't pay close attention. Alot of people make themselves easy to be scammed.

Virtual Items are hard, if not impossible to prosecute against.

I highly doubt someone would go through all that trouble for an online game scam.

This is a Black-market, this site alone isn't even much allowed, it goes against the rules of Jagex.
People getting lured and losing their pixels is their own fault for being greedy in the first place. Haters gon hate & lurer's gon lure.
    To answer your question, NO.

    Interesting.

I wouldnt think police would go through the hassle of a runescape item being lost as you need a lot of proof to hold it.

Is luring/scamming in RS against the law?

"You agree that all intellectual property or other rights in any game character, account and items are and will remain our property. Jagex owns all rights in the Jagex Products, and you are only granted permission to use such products, subject to and in accordance with these Terms and Conditions."

When you create an account or login to runescape, you agree to that clause. This means that you do not own rsgp, you do not own items, you do not own an account. When you report these "losses" to the police you are wasting their time and your own. What happens when gp is "stolen" is that Jagex's property is simply moved from one account to another, and both accounts are property of Jagex.

On another note, this is why gold trading is and can never be illegal. When you buy gold, you are simply paying someone to move Jagex's possessions from one account to another.
