Basic Precautions When Trading On Sythe

    • Read the forum rules

-Reading forum rules before posting can prevent your threads from being locked, receiving an infraction, and can also give you helpful tips.
The forum rules are stickied so they are easy to find.

    • Always use a middleman

-Using a middleman dramatically reduces the chances of being scammed by the other party.
You can find the list of Official Middlemen > here <
Unless you are doing a big trade, a trusted middleman should suffice. You can find them > here <

*NOTE* Almost all small trades can be done with regular middlemen. If someone denies the use of any trusted middleman, saying, "ONLY Official Middlemen", there is a possibility of them being a scammer. NEVER go first to them in that situation. They are most likely trying to build your trust and ask you to go first saying,"There's no OMM on right now, let's just get this trade done with." *NOTE*

    • Never Rush A Trade

-Most scammers do not have patience and will urge you to do a quick trade with them, giving you any reason why.
They do this because: the shorter the time, the less chance you have of gathering evidence and taking pictures of the conversation and trade.

    • Always ask for a pm

-When trading with another member of Sythe, ask them to pm you (on Sythe) information confirming you are talking to them.
A good form of confirmation is them telling you to pm : "Hi, this is (Their msn), and I am talking to you on (Your msn)." This way, you have clear evidence of who is talking to you.

    • Search their msn on Google and their Sythe name (Sythe search button)

-Searching their msn on Google will help you find what other sites and threads the user has posted, and if he is trustworthy or not.

-Searching their name on Sythe will help you find threads in which they are mentioned, there is a possibility that there is a scam report out
(also remember to check the > Report A Scammer Section < )

    • Too good to be true? It is.

-Always make sure to search other threads in the section for price confirmation. Usually deals that are "Too good to be true" can be easily thwarted if you ask for an official
middleman and they deny. In any situation, make sure to make use of the helpful people offering middleman services.

List Of Common Scams And How To Avoid Them

    • Teamviewer Scam

-Best thing to do: Stay away from using Teamviewer while trading.
Why? Cause they can take control of your computer, A.K.A. drop all your stuff.
If you fall for this scam, then immediately disconnect your device from the internet.

    • PayPal Chargeback

-Don't take Paypal from non-trusted users. It is very easy for someone to file an unauthorized access claim with PayPal and win the dispute.
Only take PayPal from trusted members (also remember, they can still charge back)
Instead of using PayPal, PlayerAuctions is the safest thing out there. You can find a guide on PlayerAuctions > Why Use Player Auctions? < and > How To Use Player Auctions <

-HOWEVER, if you do find yourself in this type of situation in the future, you could buy a guide here (mod): > FlyingToast's Guide to Winning Paypal Chargeback Disputes <

    • Moneybookers Chargeback

-Long ago it was believed that moneybookers was safe and secure, impossible to charge back. Sadly, that is not true anymore. Just like Paypal, only accept moneybookers from trusted members.

    • Quick trade

-They will make an excuse like, "I gotta go in 5 minutes", in order to get you to do a fast transaction.
They want a fast trade so you won't be able to find a middleman in time and you won't be able to get proper photo evidence of the scam.

    • Imposter

-A scammer adds you on msn, claiming to be someone else (usually a staff member or someone you are trying to trade with.)
Hovering over someone's name on msn gives a mini-profile. ALWAYS make sure that the msn matches the name on the one in the Sythe thread.

*NOTE* Do NOT read the header (pink box in my picture) on msn for confirmation. Users can put ANYTHING they want in that top header. *NOTE*

    • Fake Vouches

-A user's vouch thread contains posts that either do not have an arrow, lead to a different user's post, or has different words in the post.
      Here is an example:
ALWAYS remember to check the name and contents of the vouch to see if they match the linked post (also remember to make sure to check who the vouch is for)

-Another common scam is hiding fake vouches in between real ones.
If the user has a suspicious amount of vouches with a low post count, make sure you click some of the middle vouches to see if they are valid.

What kind of people are deemed trustworthy
    • Be wary of these ranks

-These people have earned this rank because although there is no solid evidence banning them, they have been suspected of scamming or have problems with securing their accounts. ALWAYS use a middleman when trading with them.

-Do not trade with these people, as they are banned from Sythe. Also be wary and keep in mind of their msn.

-Do not trade with these people, in most cases they have earned this because of built of infractions (not necessarily scamming), but stay away from these people in any case.

-Do not trade with these people. Usually people that have this are people whose trust has been compromised (virus or msn hacked) or are temporarily away from the Sythe community and do not wish to endanger anyone in case of a security breach.

    • Donation Rank

-These users have decided to support Sythe.org by donating money. This is usually a good way to tell a user's legitimacy and trustworthiness, however, it is always encouraged to look at their vouches.

-There are many ways to donate, which can be found > here <
The full list of donation benefits can be found > here <

    • Moderators and Administrators

-These people are an elite species that have been handpicked by Sythe himself to enforce the rules and help keep the community running. These are deemed some of the most trustworthy people on Sythe.org.

-You can find the list of current staff online > here < (green dot means online)

-You can find a detailed list of titles and ranks > here <

What To Do After A Successful Trade

    • Vouch for each other

-A vouch is a form of written confirmation of a trade or service done well. This is also a way for users to post feedback of their trading experience with you.

-You can start a vouch thread by starting a new thread in the forum found > here < or simply click > this <
      > Here < is my vouch thread. You can quote someone's post by simply clicking the "quote" button in the bottom right footer of the user's post and copying the information (notice that if you click the arrow sign in a quote, it should lead directly to the post).

-A good vouch includes the user's name and what it is for.
-It is very helpful and convenient for other members if you include your vouch thread in your signature.
Top of the site: User CP ---> Edit Signature, copy and paste your vouch thread url.

    Reporting A Scammer

/support. As said above this deserves a sticky, maybe even a mention for new users to check out as they are the main victims of scamming.

The colors are a bit much... However, I do like the table of contents and the bullet type quick points you make. However, nothing is explained in too much detail and someone who knows nothing might miss what you are trying to say. The random quoting of the rules doesn't seem to serve much purpose as this guide really is about the market and not Sythe in general. More explanation of how the market rules work would be better than a random copy and paste. I do also like the links at the bottom. The rank images for all the staff and stuff also do not serve much point, in my opinion. Decent guide.

Good, informative guide. I agree with SuF about the colours and the quoting of the rules though. Perhaps just a link to the rule page would suffice.
Good luck on the contest ;)
