Is my RAM usage unusually high?

Hey guys, I've just installed Windows 7, upgraded Java to 64-bit etc and I've noticed that each bot uses nearly 500MB of RAM.. it starts off at about 400MB and slowly climbs up another 100MB or so.

My 4GB of RAM is nearly maxxed out with only 6 bots so this can't be right.

First thing that came to mind was a memory leak, but I'm not really clued up in that area.. any ideas people?

Im running RC bots, and I know they use a bit more memory than others.. but I'm pretty sure it was only taking up about 300-330MB on my 32-bit Vista computer.

And yes, I have all my Nexus settings to the right.. but this only affects CPU usage really.

And I have the RS client on Min, Fixed Window.

If anybody has bots running, can you check how much memory the Java process is taking up and please specify which script you are running. That would be a huge help, thank you! ^_^

 

its most likely because its the RCing bot, its a bot that requires a bit more ram than some others.

 

I'd say 4GB of RAM with 6 RC bots running seems very reasonable to be honest. Remember RC scripts are cpu intensive programmes. My 4GB Photon VPS was usually running around 5-6 RC bots at full capacity using all my RAM and CPU allowance. So it's nothing out of the average in terms of the amount of RAM being used.

 

Cheers for the replies.. I think you guys may be right, it's the script rather than a memory leak as the memory usage has actually went down since posting this. The fluctuations are probably due to crowded areas/worlds etc.

However, I still think that the RC script used less RAM on my other computer.. maybe the 64-bit system uses more memory?

Slightly annoying as I expected to be able to run more than this.. ah well, guess im getting another 4GB to max out my CPU then lol

is it unusual to still lag in soul wars with 8gb of ram?

 

I know for sure that a memory leak did/does occur when using the RC script which teleports, this may have an effect slightly giving you higher than normal usage. Remember that windows 7 will also be using ram/cpu. Like you answered yourself, world.. ping.. areas etc all come into play.

If you were sitting on like 3-4 bots max I'd be concerned but I think the amount of bots you have running is pretty generous especially since they are RC bots.

 

Other factors, such as processor, internet connection, which world you are in etc also must be considered, although if you have 8gb of RAM I'd say you have a pretty decent computer.

Maybe your internet or the world you are playing in may be effecting this? Are you running any other programmes or just one SW bot?

 

you should be pretty happy with 6 rcing bots tbh i think. the max bots you might be able to run would be 8, and that would be with less-cpu-using scripts

Yeah, I'm starting to think that myself - the Java processes are now at 580MB and the CPU usage seems to be significantly higher than earlier.. the fan is kicking in at high speed even though I have nothing else open.. it was quiet earlier.

It really does seem like the memory is climbing up over time.. which would describe a memory leak - right?

Why don't you just run ONE bot get an hr average of CPU usage and so on.

Also, how many fans do you have installed? and i'd recodmend Rsbuddy it has a 'use less cpu' function, most bots are free/ awsome.

 

I don't run SW bot I play SW manually time to time and when I'm running through the map it loads like every 10 seconds it probably is my internal as its DSL and theres like 10k bots bolting to the middle of the map, and my video card is a ATI Radeon I think, but its so annoying lagging like that.
