    Caution! Phishers and RATS

    Phishers:

Recently free trade was released and now a whole barrage of idiots are flooding our forums posting links that free-trade is not here ect. To be safe, you should look at the link before you click it.

From here, you can tell if its a legitimate location.

Sadly, you cannot see where my mouse is, but it should be ontop of one of the links to the forums.

Sometimes they try and pretend its on the RS forums by making it such as this:

    http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/forums.ws?14,15,640,61274840

They make it look legitimate, yet it takes you to a place that you don't want to go to.

Remember these are the legitimate runescape links.

    http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/forums.ws?14,15,640,61274840 for the forums.

    https://secure.runescape.com/

Make sure that is part of the URL when entering your password. But make sure to look over it, as sometimes they do runescape.secure or put in small spelling errors to trick you!

Another common scam involves clans. Some people pretend they have a clan, and a website and ask you to join. Once you visit the website it says "Check out our RS Forums thread!". Sometimes, they will change the link and it could take you to a phisher.

    RATS:

RAT stands for Remote Administrative Tools. They can be used for many things, such as botnets and more! They can do lots of bad things to your computer such as harvest your passwords, and or keylog you. They can view your webcam and take control of your computer.

    Some features of RATs are:

    1. Manage files
    2. Control internet browser.
    3. Get system information
    4. Get passwords, credit card numbers and or private data
    5. View and remote control your computer
    6. Record camera & sound
    7. Control mouse
    8. Delete, install, rename, move or upload files

The most popular method of getting people is by "Java Drive-by". Its when you visit a webpage you aren't familiar with and it asks you to accept a Java applet. If you accept it, it runs its scripts and eventually installs the RAT onto your computer. You can avoid getting RATs by looking at the link/and or copying the location and putting it in some website scanners. Such as, http://www.unmaskparasites.com/ . It will tell you if they have suspicious scripts running on their webpages.

If by accident and you do get a RAT on your computer one of your best bets is to sign up on http://www.hackforums.net/ .

Make a thread in here: http://www.hackforums.net/forumdisplay.php?fid=115

    Following these guidelines: http://www.hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=686793

They should be able to help you remove the virus, and any other viruses or Rats that were on it previously.
