Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
people in africa and other undeveloped poorer countries in the world I believe don't deserve to live in poverty, but on the other hand people in more well off countries such as the united states and uk, do deserve it, If your born in the united states you can easily take your self out of poverty, people sit around with signs and try to bum change, when they could easily just go to a mcdonalds or some other chain and get a minimum paying job im not saying they would be completely out of poverty but at least theyd be able to have a roof overthere head even if its not that nice and be able to feed them selves

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
I don't think so. No one is born to deserve poverty. If a person grew in a poor family, he had nothing to do with that at the beginning. as time goes by, everything could happen, poverty might not be a problem at last.

Well, you can't give an opinion on such a large group of people. Some probably do deserve for things they've done in life but others such as those born in poor families don't deserve it.

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
Possibly one of the most ridiculous topics I have ever seen.
No one deserves anything. No one "deserves" poverty. Poverty isn't even brought among someone by their own actions. If you truly have nothing left, you can't just get a job at McDonalds. Think about lots of factors around this topic:
- Is it just the money?
- Are they healthy? Definition of health is "A complete state of physical, mental, and social well being, without the absence of infirmity." If someone has no friends, they may be depressed and are by definition, unhealthy. This can lead to a downwards spiral where with no motivation, you can lose everything. Once you get to the lowest point, such as in poverty, there is no easy way out.
Being unhealthy can very easily lead to poverty. Not fit/unable to get work can lead to poverty, not being mentally stable can lead to poverty as some countrys see these people as "different", and do not wish to help them.
Those of us answering this thread are incredibly lucky. We have been born into a society where almost every opportunity is given to us on a plate. People in poverty have to make their own luck, easier said than done.
So next time you see Somalian pirates on the news kidnapping people, or people getting smuggled into another country, just stop and think.
Is that what they want to be doing? Do they DESERVE this life? They are trying to survive, it's our natural instinct.
Each day is a gift and not a given right.

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
It depends on where they are located, first world poverty is deserved 100% because there is infrastructure in place for you to be able to escape poverty, and not taking advantage of the infrastructure is your own fault.
If you are located in a country that's desperately poor like somewhere in Africa then you probably don't deserve it.

That's a pretty huge generalization. If you're black and don't have a college degree, its pretty hard not to be poor/working class. How do you define first world? Do you define it by the super wealth? By the middle class? By the wealth disparity?

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
Poor people deserve poverty depending on how they got poor.
If they're simply wasting their life then yes.
If they are down on their luck, then not really.

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
there is a lack of will too end poverty.. from government these people do not deserve it. people are often born into poverty they do not deserve poverty.
some people cant get off there asses to get a job, they deserve poverty.
people trying to get a job but cant get one don't
in simple terms if there is a way out of poverty for that person, but they dont take it it's there falt.
if people can't change they are in poverty no matter what they do, they do not deserve poverty,

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
The one thing i've always thought is, people that don't have the accommodations to give a child the best upbringing, shouldn't bare children. You should give the child the best he can, not birthing him/her in a "poor" setting, not giving him/her the best of the best or even adequate living arrangement. Them doing so is setting a child up for failure. And is just not acceptable.
Them wanting to have a child would be selfish of their own wants/needs and wouldn't be the best for the child.

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
Yes and no. If they are poor because they are lazy and stupid, then yes, yes they do. If they are in a bad situation (like being born in Africa) then no, no they don't. It's rather simple, really.

Re: Do poor people deserve poverty?
Poverty in American is outrageous. There are public schools in America, if you work hard enough in High School you should be able to go to University. Work comes from University. With work comes Currency. In my opion some poor people do deserve poverty. The ones that deserve poverty, in my opinion, are the people who are lazy and expect to have work. War Veterans who have Post Tramatic Stress Disorder or PTSD should NOT be poor, or even below that poverty line. They served and deserve to be taken care of.

It isn't easy to escape poverty. Some people are too busy working or taking care of siblings to do well in high school. Even public colleges can be expensive. Student loans are a deathtrap.
