Default [Skin Health]Getting Rid of Keratosis Pilaris[Personal Experiences]

Let me start off by giving you an idea of my physical appearance.
-Brown eyes
-Short brown hair
-190lbs
-5'11

Now, If you clicked on this guide you either:
A) Have KP (Keratosis Pilaris)
B) Don't know what it is and were just curious.
C) Not sure if you have it but might want to know.
D) Increase your post count

Either one you pick, you still clicked on the thread and if you are willing to read than I shall provide.

Personal Experience

I personally had KP since I was in 7th grade, I am currently a freshman in college. It started to show on my face and under my arms (Behind my biceps).
If you were a self-conscious like me, you really hated the way it looked and just wished it would go away. KP is a simple problem with no major consequences so if your parents were like mine, when you told them you wanted to see a Dermo they would quickly shut you down.
If you do research on the Internet they will quickly tell you many different things with little to no results. Saying buy this cream that cost $300 or rub this on your KP numerous times a day for months on end, or the infamous "There is no remedy".
Heart breaking responses they were to me when I was young.
Finally after entering college I told myself I wanted this stuff gone.

So the question, "How did you get rid of your KP?"
My answer? Simple.
-Fish Oil with Omega-3
-Healthier eating habits and exercise
-Multivitamins

Fish Oil
Fish oil with Omega-3 is known to promote skin health. The simple fact that it heals, moisturizes, and rebuilds your skin is amazing.
KP is caused because "Keratosis pilaris occurs when the human body produces excess keratin, a natural protein in the skin. The excess keratin, which is cream colored, surrounds and entraps the hair follicles in the pore." (Wikipedia Keratosis Pilaris)
The Fish Oil actually breaks down the keratin and allows for your skin to produce normal amounts, causing health levels to function properly.
Fish oil doesn't stop at KP, it can cure redness, acne, scars, bumps, bruises, etc.
The pill itself can be bought at your local Super Market, Pharmacy, etc. It be bought for prices as cheap as $7 for a bottle of 100!
Take 3 a day, 1 with each meal. (Although sometimes I take 2 a time if i plan to be to busy to remember for one meal)

A healthy diet and exercising is another KEY element to getting rid of KP.
It is said that KP mainly affects larger people than it does smaller people.
I'm not gonna lie before I was 190 I was around 240. I lost a lot of weight. (that's a whole another story)
So I bet you are thinking now is: Wait, if you lost all that weight, wouldn't the key to losing KP just losing weight?
Answer: No.
As much as losing weight is healthy for you, it will not cure KP alone.
If you are on the heavier side (not insulting anyone, I was there before) than you should greatly look into losing weight to help speed up the process.
If you are "In Shape" than tweak your diet a little.
Are you skinny by genetics and have KP?
If so, you probably have KP by genetics too. If you are skinny by genetics (high metabolism) and you have KP, i suggest changing your diet up.
Reduce your carb intake and fat intake. Focus more on protein and veggies.
I understand it can be gross, but hey fighting KP is determination and I know if you want it bad you can knock out KP and knock out being healthy!

Finally, Multivitamins.
Do you already take multivitamins? No? You should!
Did you know most Americans do not get there daily amount of vitamins in one day? Thats why you need multivitamins! They provide the things your body needs to help bodily functions go smoothly. (i.e. make sure your body doesn't produce extra keratin!)

Now the main question: How fast will I see results?
I have no other answer than, It varies on the person and how much he tries to work at it.
The fish oil alone with the multivitamins can take only about 2-3 weeks before you see some "Amazing" results; not minor, not noticeable, but Amazing results.

I understand that the guide takes time, so I won't have many "testimonies" on here that soon. I will continue to bump the guide to show others and remind those who really want this skin problem gone.

If you have had KP and did what I did, please vouch for me.

If you think, "Man, this won't work. I'm not wasting my money"
-I gain no profit from you buying anything, this is my experiences to you.
Buying multivitamins and Fish Oil will only cost you about... $15. What
do you have to lose?

Why is your guide different from what I've read on the Internet?
It's probably not, other people have done what I have done and seen the same results.
The difference is is that im a fellow Sythe user, a fellow gamer, and someone close to everyones age on this forum.

Is it really so simple that you can fit it in this small guide?

Short answer, Yes. Long answer, ummmmmmmmmmmm yes.

That's weird, I was looking the other day at the exact same thing I have under the biceps on my arm. Although it doesn't bother me in the slightest I'm more than comfortable with my appearance and have never even had anyone notice it before. I never even knew there was a medical condition for it until now so thanks for enlightening me

However, I can totally understand why someone would want to get rid of it, nice guide, I might give it a try out one day if I feel like it.

It's genetics so it can randomly come!
Hey if you got it, never hurts to try it get it to go away!
But it is really good you are not self conscious, enjoy what you were given

Well, I'm sure all you've mentioned would do some good.

If you really want to mitigate the extent of KP, you should use Benzoyl Peroxide. Benzoyl Peroxide is highly efficacious in treating KP as it quite simply dissolves keratin.

As I stated in the guide, this requires numerous amounts of applying for months on end, and it also did not work for me. I had my run in with Benzoyl Peroxide rubs and all it did was irritate my skin :|

Great post OP, lots of info for people that have tried all of the useless overthe counter medications for kp. I've been clear of my bumps for around a year and a half now using my own treatment plan, which I put together after tons of reading online.

I exfoliate like crazy, several times everyday (I never miss a day!), with both wet and dry loofah sponges. I have cut both dairy and gluten out of my diet and doubled the amounts of veggies and lean meats that I eat (I also try to avoid any processed foods).

I use a quality moisturizer that doesn't leave my skin oily feeling, and moisturize a few times every day. And I have to agree with the OP about fish oil (I take two of those big ass capsules every night) and I also jog for about 30 minutes a day. This site has a lot of good info on kp and treatment options that don't cost you much if anything at all. Good luck to all with kp!
