Swype Keyboard on the Motorola Droid

For all you Droid users out there, I assume most of you have been disappointed about the lack of a Swype Keyboard, well that's all about to change.

    What is Swype?

Swype is a new input method from the creators of the famous T9Word input method. However, this method is thought to be the most effective input method today. Swype eliminates multiple tap input methods and rather imploys the movement of a finger across a touch screen to predict words.

What does a Swype Keyboard look like?

As you can see it resembles a typical QWETRY keyboard, but as you can see via the blue line, it offers an enhanced text input method, also known as Swype.

How do I get Swype for my Droid?

    • Go to 250ml.t-k (take out the dash - it's blocked by the Sythe filter) on your Droid. (take you to http://www.mediafire.com/?omkzmr0dxo2)
    • Download the file.
      • You might get promoted about non-market applications and not being able to download them.
      • You need to go to Settings > Applications > Unknown Sources (make sure this is checked).
    • Install the file (should be in the notification panel).
    • You've not got it installed.
Now that it's installed how do I use it?

    • Go to Settings > Language & keyboard > Swype (make sure this is checked).
    • Now go to a text message, e-mail, or any text based entry.
    • Make sure you're on the virtual keyboard (the phone must be closed).
    • Hold down on the text box, it will bring up the options of Paste and Input method, choose Input method.
    • Choose Swype as the Input method.
    • There is a tutorial button the keyboard itself that you can follow if you are not familiar with the Swype input method.

This is by far the simplest method to getting Swype on your phone. The other known methods involve .RAR files being transferred via USB, where this is a direct download and install.

Pictures are currently lacking, but I plan to improve upon these (don't have the necessary programs to print screen via the Droid, yet).

Yeah, I saw that method of typing however I didn't know what it was called, but it looks badass. I saw it on a commercial on the breaking of the world texting record...

The next cell I'm getting is a droid, but hopefully they will have it on there when I get it :p

Not sure what you exactly mean. You just drag your finger over the buttons you wish to type as opposed to the conventional multi-tap texting.

Yeah. The download is clean as far as I can tell and runs smoothly.

The whole swype method is really confusing and sounds hard. Very nice guide, 9/10

Meh, so was T9 when it came out. It's one of those muscle memory things and you'll love it.
