Mind over Matter: How You Can Use It to Improve Your Life

    Intro

The mind is an extremely complex system of nerves it sends messages through your body basically telling it what to do. The mind can do many things to you, it can make you happy, sad, determined, lazy, and basically every other feeling, emotion, or personality trait you can think of. I can be used to help you, or it can hinder you. But one thing remains the same in either case; you are the one who is in control. You control your mind, because well, the mind is you.

This guide will be based entirely on my own experiences and will have no scientific studies, facts, or proof at all. The only “proof” I have is my word and that I have managed to use my mind to alter my body, and for the better might I add. Well anyway, below you will find my “guide” on how you can gain control of your mind to help yourself.

    My Story

Now I would like to first point out that this guide is not for the weak minded. You should have a good mental determination and wiliness to try things. You must also never doubt what you are trying to do. If you do doubt yourself you will never be able to do anything. I cannot also guarantee that anything will even work. Well here we go.

I will be basing this guide on the experience I had during the spring of ’09. The first time I really used my mind to help myself was about mid-spring. I was in track and was doing the long and triple jump and also the 800 meter run. And well running and jumping can put a lot of stress on your knees. Now I am not one to get hurt or injured while doing really anything. I have always been lucky to skip all that and remain pain free through really any sport. This was the first time that I have ever been in real pain because of a sport. What happened was I messed my knee up bad. I could hardly jump or run and my knee even gave out one time while I did a run through. And I had a track meet coming up in 2 days so I really needed my knee to get better.

So I did what I would normally do for any type of soreness or pain that I would get from anything, ignore it. But well that didn’t work out so well and when I got out of bed that morning my knee was worse than ever and had swollen up a bit. So I said to myself “Hmm this cannot be good” so I tried icing it but that did nothing at all. Then I got the crazy notion to use my mind to block the pain and make it go away.

So all day long, I would repeat in my head “There is no pain in my knee, there never has been pain in my knee, I feel no pain in my knee…” and I just kept thinking that the entire day, and while I tried to go to sleep I kept thinking it. On the day of my meet I kept thinking it, and not once while I was trying to “erase” the pain did I attempt to see if it was working, until it was time to do my first run through of the long jump.

As I got up to my mark to start my take off, I got a little worried but I quickly pushed that aside. I then lowered my body to get into position, no pain yet; then I took off, and I was feeling great; then I got to the part that would tell me if what I did worked, the jump. I then launched myself in the air and landed. And when I got up, there was no pain.

So as you can see, by telling myself that I had no pain in my knee. My mind then “erased” all the pain because well there was none. I cannot explain why, perhaps it healed; perhaps I was just faking it. I might never know, but I have also done this several times to get rid of colds, pain, and to push myself to run faster in track.

    How You Can Do It

Doing this is not easy; you need to have a good imagination to do so. You need to truly believe in what you are trying to do. Say you have some intense pain, envision that you do not have any pain, and tell yourself you do not have any pain. And if you are strong enough, and can convince yourself that you do not have any pain, you will then not have any pain.
This can be applied to many things such as stress, your mood, if you’re tired or not, sickness, and basically whatever you can convince yourself into doing.

    After Thoughts

I am sorry if you cannot understand what I am saying. It is a very hard topic to explain, it’s really only something you can DO. If you have any questions feel free to ask. And again the only proof that I have is my own experiences. I wish you luck into controlling your mind and doing things you never thought you could do (please don’t try and convince yourself that you can survive impossible feats, i.e. falling off a giant building and surviving)
