Default Diablo not for casual players?

So after diablo 3's release in May, eight of my friends and I spent $60 on the anticipated game. We all had a lot of fun...that is, until we hit inferno.

Act 1 wasn't too bad, but starting with Act 2 things started getting shitty to the point of where playing the game wasn't fun anymore. Repair costs skyrocketed, causing inevitable deaths to become increasingly frustrating. There would always be that one elite pack with an affix combo that would literally be impossible to kill.

And so, in less than two months after the game's release we all had quit. Obviously Blizzard's intent was to have us farm Act 1 over and over again until we were sufficiently geared for Act 2, but how fucking boring is that? We've already played through Act 1 at least four times and drop rates (from my perspective) are terrible. As a casual, I personally don't have the time to farm up millions and millions of gold to buy decent gear.

What are you guys' thoughts on this?

From my very short experience with D3, there's not a lot you can actually do.
I mean, all I did was do the quests, but compared to WoW for example, you can do more than just "quest", you can do other things at the same time such as Mining or Herbalism. I just found D3 a repeat of D2 just different scenery and skills.

Note: I've only played D3 for about 6 hours total.

I have 70+ hours played and I just can't stand it anymore. I tried playing after a 3 week break and I exited after 5 minutes.

WoW on the other hand..that shit was addicting.

The multiplayer is completely rubbish. Ruins the game.

Diablo 3 inferno is definitely a step up vs Normal, Nightmare, and Hell.

It really all depends on looking for gear on the AH

I got my friend to level 60 on his barb and geared him from the AH under 200k gold.

Its quite a fun game just got to learn how to work the AH and your skill build

Never got too far into Diablo (I don't like games like it), but isn't Inferno supposed to be insanely difficult? Just because it is hard doesn't mean it isn't casual friendly either.

WoW was originally hailed as being something nobody would play, but look at it today. Who knows, maybe D3 will make a comback with its 2 planned expansions and many patches to come.

I played it only casually and to test out the gold market a bit. I didn't have much difficulty getting through Inferno. Right now I think my character is near the end of Act 4 on Inferno.

I could see PvP making it decent, but as things are now, I wasn't even interested enough to play another 2-3 hours to finish up Inferno.

I spent about 3mil on gear and beat the game, I'm pretty sure it was nerfed but I beat it with a group, I doubt I would have soloed it.

Inferno (initial release, not after they nefed the hell out of it in 1.0.3 and onward) was easy if you tested different skill builds.
I'm glad I beat it before all the nerfing occured.

But like you said, it's almost pure grind after that. I farm act 3 solo post 1.0.3 and have 120 hours logged... but jsut quite bored of it now.
