Re: Can I get on the Wifi if I Plug into the Router?
If you have a wireless router, wifi will be enabled, with a preset password.
If you run an ethernet cable from your computer to the modem/router, it will become a wired connection, not a wireless/wifi connection.
To make a wireless connection, you need either a built in wireless adapter, or an adapter installed on your computer.
If you're looking for internet speed, make sure you go with wired connection, as that is almost always faster than wireless.

Adding to the above, if you decide to purchase a wireless router, make sure you go for at least N speed. Anything lower just isn't worth it these days.
It can be useful to have a wireless router, if you use a laptop then you can take it anywhere in the house and use the Internet on it, the same if a friend comes over and owns a phone with WI-FI capability or has their own laptop.

Re: Can I get on the Wifi if I Plug into the Router?
If you are asking how you would get the wifi password, you could if you ran a ethernet cable to the router, then logged into the routers settings page, or whatever you would call that. You would most likely need a password, or if you are using a linksys router it is probably username - admin / password - admin . After that you would have to find the wireless settings for the router, and the security settings, and it should have the wifi password there.
