Some tweaks to the games section

First off I would like to say that im glad it is finally here, and I am really excited to see where it goes.

The thing is, I feel that the way its been set up is a bit odd. For example, xbox still has its own section, yet diablo and possibly minecraft both had more posts then the xbox section. I suggest bringing it under a "console and PC gaming" section which would:

Eliminate two useless section (xbox screenshots/xbox clans)
Stop people from complaining about not having a PS3 section
Open up the door for all types of consoles to be discussed instead of xbox dominating all discussions
Would also be a good place for those FPS and strategy games sections to fit in.


Next I would suggest having an MMO section which could encompass WoW and all other MMOs that are being discussed on the forum, or that could be discussed on the forum. As it stands at the moment there is no designated place within that section to discuss MMOs other than WoW and Diablo (if you count that as an mmo).

The handheld section is good because it encompasses all handheld gaming.

Finally I suggest changing "Indie and Misc" to "Everything Else" or "Other Games" which would allow for everything that isn't covered by the other sections to be discussed.


This is merely some constructive ideas that I hope will be taken into consideration, thanks for reading

First suggestion: I agree with having a "Console and PC Gaming" section for primarily the reasons you have stated. Though, I think that inside the section we could have two sub-sections for the most active gaming consoles (PS3 and Xbox) and then the rest of the section could be used for miscellaneous and other console discussion.

Second suggestion: I'm fine with an "MMO section," but like I said with the "Console and PC Gaming" section, maybe adding sub-sections for the most popular MMOs (WoW and Diablo) could be beneficial, and having the rest of the section used for the other MMOs.

This could make it more organized. But, either way, I like your suggestion(s).

On your final suggestion, I think that the current name is fine.

I wanted the Xbox gaming section completely removed. It makes it so that there are multiple places to talk about the same game. I could deal with a "medium" section (a place to talk about what you play be it console or PC).

We are not having an MMO section. They should all fall under RPG (correct me if there is an MMO that is not an RPG). I changed the name of it to fit in non internet RPGs more effectively.

Indie / Misc is named that way to encopass EVERYTHING. Misc = Miscellaneous. Indie was thrown in there to make people understand that's where indie games go as what section they should fall under is questionable at times.

On your final suggestion, I think that the current name is fine.

I agree that subsections of Xbox + PS3 wouldn't hurt in the console section.

Although the majority of MMOs are RPGs, they are still a very specific type of game and wouldn't fit in well with other sections. Plus that would leave MMOs such as APB with no place to be discussed.

Yeah I think that would be a good idea, have a discussion for both console areas then have two stickies where people can post there gamertags/Psn Id's. This way the discussion that is between the two platforms (that is usually about similar games) will effectively make it more active.

I'd support removal of the xbox section and have it absolved into console gaming. As for everything else, I don't think it's needed.

We'll see how it goes. If we get huge demand for the sections to be merged then so be it.

Along the same line as Verts... Please layout EXACTLY what you want. I'm slightly confused as to what you want. Here's what we have now (use it as a template):

I really think it would benefit to have a tightly knit section that will be very straightforward and cause little to no confusion in the future.

I propose we do something like this:

No way in hell am I letting the console gaming section be readded. Its going to be organized one way and one way only damn it. We want it based on genre so that threads about games go in one section and only one section.

The idea is good, but I think either way its a catch 22. If it was split up into all the different genres then theoretically a game would only be discussed in one section, but based on the games that are actually discussed on the site it would seem that grouping them all together would lead to a more active section then if they were individuals.

I think that in the end it would make the most sense to just not have an Xbox and PS3 section at all, since discussion about the consoles would belong in the technology section and discussion of the games played on the console would fall into one of the other sections. It would also eliminate duplicates of threads in the Xbox section and in the other sections

For discussion, this would be good. Marketplace, no way. Xbox section is very active.
